Anyone here have/had parties just to make fun of movies?

One of my favorite things about the entire MST3K/RiffTrax phenomenon is its DIY feel. Whenever I watch a really good RiffTrax or MST episode, it feels less like ENTERTAINMENT (in the grandiose, self-absorbed sense) and more like sitting around with friends, busting on movies (hell, we've seen MST3K: The Movie so many times, we have our own jokes during it). So, while we recently had our first RiffTrax party, with about about a dozen people watching The Grudge and having a super (thanks for asking) time; we have, MANY times in the past, had parties where we gathered to pick a specific film (usually chosen in advance) to kick while it's down. These gatherings have always been loud, chaotic and incredibly funny (I LOVE my friends). I'm wondering if other people have done this and, if so, what films you've chosen.

Our list (so far):

Billy Jack (we've done this one multiple times; it is THAT goddamned funny)
Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster aka Godzilla Vs. Hedorah (the theme song is "Save The Earth." 'nuff said.)
Carrie (GREAT film, but DePalma+70's=HILARIOUS)
Invasion of The Bee Girls (have you ever noticed that the "Sex=Death" message that prudes and religious types try to promote never seems to have the desired effect? that's because, even in a mathematical equation like "Sex=Death," guys will NEVER read anything that comes after the word "sex")
John Carpenter's Vampires (deeeeeeep hurting)
Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course (we actually picked a movie theatre and went to see this as a group opening night, for the specific purpose of making fun of it. the best part? we outnumbered the normals who were there to see it, so they had to just put up with us)

Funnily enough, a bunch of my friends and I are doing that exact thing tomorrow night.  They think I'm going to be bringing dark and scary Korean horror movies, but in fact, I'm taking my Herschel Gordon Lewis box set and Gymkata, which are both dark and scary, just not in the same way.   ;D

Oh yeah, we do this all the time.   Check out what is in store for our next movie night.   Apparently, Dracula has been outsourced!

We have a memorial day tradition where we grab my brothers and rent 3 or 4 bad movies and watch 'em all day. It is through this that I discovered Double-Dragon, Bloodrayne, and Masters of the Universe. I"m already developing a list for the next one.

One word: Chimpathon. :^)

not really, not a planned event really.  but me and my bro and some friends end up doing this about once a year.

My family and some close friends get together over the weekends sometimes and rent B-Movies over a few beers or any type of alcohol we can muster. It's a blast but lately we all have not been doing this as often as i'd like.A lot Sci-Fi Channel Original Movies we rent out from Blockbuster. The sci-fi channel is good for crap films. That network is pumping these flicks faster then rabbit populations breeding.

It's this or make fun of Earth Final Conflict re-runs.   ACTING!

We don't really get to the really old movies like the MST3k days but we have fun with some of the newer awful movies.   My friends and I had fun with the Stallone stinker Daylight.  One of my buddies is pretty good at impressions so any Arnold movie winds up way dirtier than it was ever intended.  One of the best times we had was watching Independence Day.  I can't stand Will Smith and Bill Pullman as the president was completely ridiculous.

Well, the party happened last night.  The cowards watched the first 10 minutes of Gymkata before telling me please to stop the DVD.  We ended up watching and quoting our way through Commando and Predator.

Not intentionally, but on my friends birthday a few years ago we had a few drinks and a trampoline(!), discovered Terminator 2 was showing on TV, and ripped it to shreds. Except for one guy, for whom it was like his favourite movie ever, and when it had finished , he said "I'm never watching a film with you guys again".

But it really turned into MST when we went to see Constantine in the cinema.

Psssh. If they couldn't withstand Gymkata, how could they have ever made it through the Blitz?  :)

I've never understood that. I love T2, but I would happily riff it a new one. Something you love shouldn't be an object of worship, but something you're comfortable having fun with.

I loaned one of my coworkers the crossroads rifftrax.  His family started to watch it and his sister-in-law got upset because she actually liked the movie more than the trax and couldn't hear the actual audio from the movie.  I guess there really was a market for crossroads.  Who knew?

what about the rest of the family?

Some people honestly dont get the jokes.  which is why we like it so much more me thinks.

It's a dark and mysterious universe, my friend. The best we can do is help one another navigate it.
