I saw the Garfield movie in the theater back in 2004.  It looked pretty awful.  When I got to the theater, I was surprised.  It turned out to be even worse.

Roger Ebert had given it thumbs up though.  That was weird.

And I just fucking KNOW it's going to be me that has to watch it.

*sigh*

At least I get paid for it!

Why?  Are you a professional film critic?

No, he's a projectionist.

That's why he's constantly taking his emotions out on us.

I see what you did there. :)
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Looks like some of us had their "Smarty Flakes" this morning.

Roger Ebert also gave the third Mummy movie three stars.  I point this out not to denigrade Ebert's opinions, but to point out that, unlike most other film critics, Ebert occasionally says, "I don't care if it's crap, I like it, and damn anyone who stands in my way" instead of slobbering over every piece of arthouse smarm that comes along.

Oh, wait, he said videogames couldn't be art.  Hell, I don't know what he's thinking anymore.

So, who's waiting for the mandatory news reports about people adopting Great Danes because "They were so cute in Marmaduke!" and then dumping them because they got too big?  I'm not really a big animal rights person (unless it's the right to taste delicious), but it does piss me off that people always do this.  Of course, maybe three people will see this film, so maybe there will only be three homeless Great Danes afterwards.

I think there's a very good chance that will happen if the movie does well (which I doubt, but stranger things have happened). Having been a person who had to adopt and rehabilitate a seriously neglected and ill turtle* because of the TMNT resurgence a few years ago, I get downright homicidal when it comes to this phenomena. I wince anytime I overhear some screaming brat in a pet store nagging their parents for some poor creature that's popular at that moment, envisioning them on the side of a road eventually or far worse. I blame the stupid parents who let this happen by giving in to their kid.

*For the animals lovers on the board who are wondering, he made a complete recovery and is doing fine. He still thinks he has to beg for his food, though. Poor guy.

Good to hear it.  However, if some guy in a purple cape and metal helmet stops by your house, talking to the stomach of a very tall, robotic-looking gentlemen, could I perhaps persuade you to take these three other turtles, talking rat, and can of green goo I picked up on eBay?   ;D

If Marmaduke had any fans they'd be outraged. :^)
:D :D

Seconded.

First Garfield, now this. Who would have thought there was a market for Movies Based On Comic Strips No One's Read In At Least Two Decades?

Seriously, is this for people who felt that Furry Vengeance left them with some semblance of a soul intact?

As much as Garfield sucked, I will say this:  it did at least have a somewhat successful cartoon series, and Jim Davis does (or did, in the 80's) market the hell out of it.  So I can understand why there would be a Garfield movie made, though it was made about 15 years too late, and sucked.  There are people in the world who like Garfield, though they are few and far between.

No one likes Marmaduke.  Every single one is literally "Ha ha, he is big and that causes problems!"  At least Garfield branches out into exciting territory like eating, sleeping, and not chasing mice.  There's three times the plot!

I just thought of something...Shrek 4 really stole alot from Garfield with Puss N' Boots alternate reality self. He's flabby, lazy, likes to eat and is an orange tabby, just like Garfield.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Doctor Who?

Wow another reason not to see Shrek 4,they just keep coming and coming! :D

I hope there is a detailed subplot involving his Hitler-owner.

If it was a movie based around "Marmaduke Explained" then I might see it.
