At least the resurrected Bucky is better than the resurrected rectoned Jason Todd.
Fixed.

Recton? Sounds like a hemorrhoid treatment.  :D

As far as I'm concerned nothing in Batman comics from the last decade or so ever happened unless Paul Dini wrote it.

Sacrilege!  Morrison FTW!

Yeah, well mind you my source for this was Wikipedia, so....  Anyway, I was doing some research for the 'Bat-Mafia' game.  I was looking up something that took place during the whole 'Hush' event, which  never actually got around to read.  As I recall, it involved a bunch of bat-villains acting out of character.  It came down to the fact that the Riddler was using some of the Mad Hatter's mind control technology on said villains, except for Clayface, who was doing his own thing , appearing as the criminal 'mastermind' Hush, then revealing himself to Batman as being an adult Jason Todd.  Later it was changed utilizing retroactive continuity or retconned to have the real Jason Todd incapacitate Clayface early on and assume the 'Hush' identity.

(Sorry, don't mean to talk down to anyone, I assumed everyone knew the reference)  .

Oh, and by checking on the term retcon over at the Wiki, I came across this little gem:

"In Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, the Hobgoblin of the year 2211 carries a weapon known as a 'Retcon Bomb'; upon impact, it erases its target and all memories of the target from existence, though not erasing the consequences of their existence. This weapon has not been used since, because its inventor fell victim to one." LOL

I'm well aware of the term retcon, I was just cheekily pointing out that you misspelled it. Anyhoo...

Hush is worth reading mostly to see Jim Lee's take on nearly the entire extended Batman cast (and Bruce finally growing the balls to reveal his identity to Selina), but unfortunately, it's a typical Jeph Loeb pseudomystery where he pulls a big twist out at the end that leaves you completely unsatified. I swear, he is the most hit-or-miss writer in comics. His stuff is either pure gold or pure shit - no in between. I've read Hush a number of times and am still not clear on just what happened, but it doesn't matter, since they retcon the entire DC universe ever couple of years, for crying out loud.

I effing hate everything Grant Morrison's done to Batman. It's unreadable nonsense, and my only consolation is that, like everything else he writes, it will immediately be ignored by every other writer and editor. (I loved his JLA and New X-Men runs, though.)

Well most of the industry is guilty of that, sadly... (spidey's marriage to MJ springs to mind...)  It's also why  love itssomrandomguy's videos...

[/quote]I tend to pay less attention to the names at the botom of the first page, and more to the quality of the artwork, and to a lesser extent, the storyline.  I've had some comics that when I opened them up, the artwork was so bad I had a hard time following or enjoying the story, no matter how well written it may have been...

True, but if the story's crap, I don't care how pretty the art is. It's not worth my time.

Yeah, you're right.  I guess it takes and extra 30 seconds or so to go "looks nice, but what the @#%$@ were they thinking?!'

Sorta like the CN show 'The Boondocks'.  The production values are great, but sometimes, I'm not exactly sure what the point of the episode was.  Silly me, I was looking for common sense and logic, and what I find is 'neither fish nor fowl' .  In other words an episode that can't decide if it wants to do serious social commentary, or go for a cheap laugh.  It flounders between both, and ultimately fails to either educate or amuse.

EDIT:  Geez! I think I managed an all time record for leading a tread off-topic, even by this boards' loose standards, sorry all...

Agreed. I quite enjoy the Boondocks strip, and looked forward to the show, but the few episodes I've seen didn't work at all. Plus, it focuses way too much on Riley, who reminds me of all the little thuglets I had to put up in my neighborhood growing up.

I don't understand the hate for Morrison's Batman run.  I see it as an extension of the work he did on JLA.

Let's see...

- Dangerously unstable illegitmate son (named Damien  ::)) with Talia whom Bruce - completely out of character - just welcomes into the cave and tolerates him beating up Alfred and Tim

- "Kills" Bruce and maked Dick the new Batman, once again out of character for Dick

- Dick lets Damien be his Robin even though he doesn't know the kid from Adam, alienating Tim who just lost his father AGAIN

- Resurrecting goofy forgotten Batman stories from the '50s and trying to shoehorn them into modern continuity

- An entire issue of Batman that's really just an all-text short story about the Joker that otherwise would've made a swell mini or OGN, augmented with ugly ass computer generated illustrations

- Bruce isn't really dead, he's just unstuck in time so they sell some issues with Cavebat and Piratebat. Oh, who really cares at this point. As far as I'm concerned Bruce was replaced by a Skrull years ago.

Meh.  Nothing on that list is as wacky or out of left field as Xorn.  It's all good.

In conclusion, agree to disagree!  :highfive:

Truce!

As for Xorn, I believe editorial tampering confused an already complicated concept, but that sort of wackiness fits into the X-Men world a lot easier than it does Batman's.

You can thank Chris Claremont for screwing up Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men, in my opinion.  I really shouldn't spoiler this, because it happened like 5 years ago, but...

Yeah, I really don't like Chris Claremont.

Yeah, I really don't like Chris Claremont.

I Netflixed one of those Wolverine-centric episode compilations of the '90s X-Men animated series they put a few years ago, and there's a ridiculous Claremont audio commentary: "Hi, have you ever wanted to watch an episode of X-Men with me, Chris Claremont? Well, this is your chance!" Um no, it never even crossed my mind.  :D

I would have mailed the disc back to him with a note that just said "No."
