The 16 screen multiplex at my local galleria doesn't even have it in 2D. Can you believe that?

bratpop

I saw it in 1D. At least, I think I did. It might have just been a piece of thread off something.

I don't really see how it's an insult to the filmmaker

it could send the message of "this is the only way we think people will see your movie" which would be pretty insulting.

Yeah, I suppose.  I mostly meant compared to other things a studio could do in post (re-edit, etc) it seems pretty harmelss, plus at least it means you'll get a big cinema release.

When do you think editing happens? No editing happens until post.

We're talking about the guy who made Transporter 2. I think we kind of have to assume he's got a pretty thick skin.

That's a) not what I meant and b) not true since some directors edit the film as they shoot to see how scenes play out.

Who?

I don't care what sort of rough-cut a director might string together for his own use during production, none of that constitutes the editied version of the film that is made in Post. The MPE is fairly serious about that point as well.

Production is where the elements of the final film are captured, Post is where the film is actually put together. Do it any other way and you end up with a half-assed, poor looking, terrible sounding product.

That thing about a director sometimes having the final cut, that's a part of the contract that is concerned with the Post stage not the Production stage.

Kevin Smith.  Not that that's any kind of defence.  :)

Dear Louis,

We here at Warners have been viewing the early cut of your Clash Of The Titans, and while we applaud your hard work, we believe that the mindless theater-going sheep of the world will not hand over their filthy lucre unless your film is hastily and shoddily postconverted to headache-inducing 3-D. To put it simply, your movie just isn't good enough. Hope you don't take it personally.

Regards,
Warner Bros

Admit it: You just wanted to say "filthy lucre," didn't you?

Doctor Who?

I will say this from the trailer Clash of the Titans doesn't look like it's biggest problem is being made 3D.  it looks like a really dumb action movie,I don't think the director can claim his work of art was ruined by the studio.  It's a big dumb action movie and the studio did what is helping big dumb action movies make money right now.  Let's face it with HDTVs out for around $600 for a 50 inch screen for a lot of people 3D is the only reason to see a movie in theaters.  I'm not saying I like the idea of all movies being made 3D but I can understand why it is happening and I don't think it's because the studios want to slap directors in the face.  I think it's just a money thing plain and simple.  If more people were going to 2d showings then 3d ones 2D would come back.

:D  It seemed like the best way to describe money from movie ticket sales.
