Zack Synder, director of 300 and Watchmen...is doing a movie about owls?

Dare I say it, but I'm actually intrigued by this:

It's based on the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series that's apparently like Watership Down mixed with epic fantasy, so I dunno...Animation looks gorgeous, in any case. Maybe owls are the perfect match for Snyder's "Slow-down-speed-up" technique. It's just good to see another more serious-natured animated movie come out in the mainstream...God, we need more of that.

For a kids movie, I think this actually looks kind of good. I mean, once you get past anthropomorphized, talking owls. It looks kind of dark and actually really nice CG.

Certainly looks better than the non-Pixar stuff Disney's been dumping out lately.  I agree, it does seem like it has a bit more seriousness in it, without being overly depressing...kinda like the stuff from the mid-80s.  The pop rock does make me a little nervous, though...

I'm looking forward to it, I think it looks pretty good. Plus, I always dig Owls.
