All I have to say is they better not F this up. I know many geeks have said that about movies that Hollywood decided to adapt from video games/comics but this is seriously one of those video games series that I actually care what the movie turns out to be like.

As for casting....well I think we can start posting our dream choices.

I put my vote in for
Kiefer Sutherland as Solid Snake and his dad Donald Sutherland as Big Boss.

All I can say is, kill your hopes now.  Just let them die.  If it turns out to be any good, then you'll be surprised.  But do not go into it thinking it will be a good movie.  Now matter how good of a director they get, no matter how talented the actors, no mater how much time they spend on sets.  You will only be disappointed.  I know that's what happened with Silent Hill.  I mean, I enjoyed it, but I think I would have liked it more if I wasn't expecting something great, which I was.

Well the fact that Hideo Kojima is the executive producer makes me happy in a warm way. Who knows maybe he will end up directing? I do know this he has said in interviews that he would rather never make a MGS movie than make a half-assed one......also he said he wanted a large amount of control over an adaption which he has....and of course if he didn't approve of this then it wouldn't of happened.

I just wonder if its going to be like how Doom was. A lot of hype, and a pretty popular movie star but was a total waste of time.  Hopefully this one and Halo won't be terrible.  Halo I'm really hoping wont bomb since Peter Jackson is the Executive Producer, but some of you probably have different opinions about him than what i have.

I remember reading tons of articles about how the director of Silent Hill worked closely with the creators of the game, and that they were all really happy with where it was going, and later, with the final version.  That made me happy too.  But then I got something that was just ok.

Well working with and working FOR is two entirely different things. The fact that Hideo has a title already is a good thing, now your right I don't want to get my hopes up but it's hard not to when I know already how involved Hideo is. If you know anything about him you know his desire to one day direct films.....

Yeah i really think hideo can pull off a pretty damned good movie.  But i still dont have a lot of faith, just out of curiosity though what is the plot gonna follow?  The first game would be the best but you cant follow the game all that closely or else the movie will be weird and lame.  Although snake eater could be cool too.

As to silent hill, there is ONE thing you should NEVER have in your serious scary movie, and thats crowds of people chanting "burn the witch",  it imediately ruins all mood you were going for.

Honestly I think you follow Snakes first missions.....and do MGS later.

I am talking about his fight with Big Boss and his fight with the Ninja in a active minefield while it's raining. Ever read the synopsis of the first two Metal Gear games on the MGS disc? It reads like the most bad ass action movie you could think of. Son fighting father, teacher fighting student, etc.
It would rule if they made that, plus the aspect of a rogue nation kidnapping a scientist to create the ultimate weapon to be used against America really kinda goes with our reality today....

the whole anti nuke/genetics thing was really interesting in MGS though.  Plus liquid is a bad ass super villain.

Yes but you can't realistically pull that off in the movie....I mean come on? A wig and sun glasses? Maybe if they had Liquid pull some Mission impossible/scooby doo stuff it would work. I know one thing if they did use the first two games (Metal Gear 1&2) as source material for the first movie then it would make an adaption of MGS so much more gratifying....

yeah but the whole big boss vs snake thing always seemed so corny to me.  If i was writing the whole MGS thing it would merely be BASED on the first MGS game not the actual one itself.  I know i would definately write out the whole master thing.

Blueguy

I'd like Kiefer Sutherland as Ocelot.
I want David Hayter to play Snake.

With that said, I don't have very high expectations.  They'll screw up the casting and I just don't think a 2 hour movie can do an already cinematic game like Metal Gear justice.

sarcasm_made_Easy

Ok then who is Liquid?  Needs to have a great maniacal laugh.

Or pyscho mantis?  trent reznor?  ;)

I think with raven we would end up in the same boat as daredevil, there just arent enough big people.

Blueguy

they really can't fit everyone in the movie.  It'd have to be narrowed down a bit and of course not every role needs to be played by a well-known actor.

Being that Solid and Liquid are clones, I'd say they'd need to be played by the same person, just get Cam Clarke to voice-over for Liquid.

Hideo Kojima directs...
...
HK: "Alright, next scene is Solid Snake making 200 pullups up at the edge of galery to increase his grip meter."
