Yeah, if you are going to make your own covers, you really need access to sites where you can get hold of good quality poster art and stills for your covers.   Fortunately, I am a member of a few sites like that.   Amazing what kind of press kits are available.

I never used to use them until i started reauthoring my own Rifftrax DVDs. Now i love the stupid little things. In fact, i'm starting to use them for my MST3K collection. I think they work best when you have a series or something like a box set... as opposed to a bunch of individual movies. I don't think that i'd ever switch from a professional or legit DVD case to a homemade thinpack though. But if i'm making a "backup" copy of a movie or something, and have the choice...

Ditto.  I like that the RiffTrax thinpaks look different than the rest of my DVDs, it makes me feel a little bit better having Crossroads on my shelf with the custom cover in a thinpak.

I don't particularly like thinpak DVD's unless they're part of a nice boxed set; even if done well, I think they look a bit amateurish...but I may change my tune as my DVD collection becomes unmanageably large

I used to think that too, but once I got over 500 DVDs, I had to do something.   And now, I like the thin spines better.   Plus, making thinpaks is a good excuse to make your own custom cover to replace some ugly hollywood ones.

What's the worst that can happen?

Yes these are my DVD shelves.

...

Ha! Ha! You have a framed Top Gun Poster!

Nice!

I now a lot of folks who have just given up on displaying the DVDs and put them in logictech cases like CDs.   I did this for all my CDs, but I must display the DVDs.

Raven

Hey.  I got that when I was 6 years old and my father ran the theater in town.  I loved that movie when I was little.  I also have one of the first 2 teenage mutant ninja turtle movies and  Spaced Invaders.

Not only does he have a framed Top Gun poster, but he proudly displays a copy of Showgirls.

But in all fairness, it was the edition that had the shot glass, pasties and humerous audio commentary.   Uh, er, so they say.

macleod

Wow....I think at that point, maybe logitech is best, or some sort of "bookish" folio case that you can arrange nicely...

Yes these are my DVD shelves.

Looks a bit like my shelves. Except mine have DVDs stuffed into the dead space above the DVDs and the bottom of the next shelf. I even have that  "VIP Showgirls" set. Er, I mean that Baseket Ball poster.

macleod

There are some things not to advertise...but by all means go for it

Man for some people who love watching bad movies albeit with funny comments added to them, you care an awfully lot about how some displays his/her bad movies.  :-",

I've defended Showgirls in the Suggest a Trax area before and I'll do it again.  Heres the thread.

Oh yeah and all my boxed sets are on the top of the shelves.

macleod

For the most part, I only keep my singles on the shelf. Most abnormal boxes I store away; but that's what makes the Star Trek DVDs such a pain for me

(and now we've come full circle)
