Does "I love the '80s" qualify as a documentary? :^)

I LOVE those shows. Did you see I Love The Holidays?

Good question. Ken Burns' works are generally counted as documentaries, even though they are clearly and expressly made for television.

I'm sorry, variety. I don't bear you any personal animosity, but your utterance of such mindless nonsensical phrases as "enslaves animals" is a pretty strong indication of the complete lack of any serious adult thought. Rather than getting into an ad hominem shouting match with someone possessing a rather verbose manner of saying pretty much nothing, I would just as soon leave this discussion alone and wish you well. It's my hope that, one day, you will come to realize just how directly in opposition to observable reality your current mindset is, if only for the reason that the "philosophy" you have adopted is a virtual guarantee of a lifetime of misery, and I wouldn't wish that on ANYONE, especially with a world as beautiful and magnificent as ours out there, just waiting to be enjoyed.

I think Penn Jillette (who, because of his loud, brusque stage persona, doesn't get enough credit for being a great thinker, which I sincerely believe he is) put it best:
"If you look at the larger picture of history, particularly in fifty-year or larger chunks, the world is ALWAYS getting better, and people ALWAYS think it's getting worse."

I hope you come to see that one day, variety, and I wish you luck.

That's a shame.  So much for this conversation's fiery end.  It didn't have to be a shouting match.  You could have just said "I don't feel animals are being enslaved on farms because...."  and then listed some sort of reason.  And trust me, some of your comments have made me just as angry as you, but I didn't feel like it was grounds to end the debate.

EDIT:  But then again, it doesn't look like either of us is going to be able to convince the other one of anything, especially not over the internet.  So maybe it's best that it ends.

Man good one.  I do love Connections.  In fact I'll go on record saying Connections with James Burke is my favorite, non-porn star, documentary.  The first season is available on youtube...which is nice since the only other format is VHS via ebay.

So what is your favorite porn star documentary then??

Oh, Playboy's "Sex Under Hot Lights".

Nunyerbiz

I would guess that it has been mentioned before in this thread, but I haven't read the whole thing yet... so...

"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" is a pretty interesting look into that whole fiasco. It was simply dumbfounding what these guys were able to get away with for as long as they did. The documentary was made before Ken Lay died and the other primary trials had completed, but it's well worth a viewing.

yeah i wanted to see that one,  So clearly they were guilty huh.  I wonder how often that sort of thing goes on in corporate america.

There was an independent documentary made around here (Minnesota) about Snuff films that sounded interesting.  I saw a preview for it at a short film festival.  If you don't know, Snuff films are films where the actors or actresses are actually killed on camera.  From what I hear, it's usually just people tied to a chair and then maybe tortured and killed.

But there is a lot of debate as to whether this films actually exist or not.  Some say there's a whole underground ring of them, and some say they just don't exist.  But in the teaser trailer for the documentary they said they received a video that was very shocking, but they wouldn't say what it was.  Damn teaser trailers.  Has anyone here managed to see the documentary?

Ugh.  Was it the actual MOVIE Snuff?  Or was it a different load of bullshit designed to cash in on an idiotically persistent urban legend?

Trust me on this one.  There is no "debate."  Snuff films don't exist.  Nobody has EVER found one.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

its a pretty grotesque topic when you really think about it.  Why are people fascinated by shit like that?  Its blows my mind.

some people have no empathy.

Really?  Would you mind recording your mind being blown?  I would like to see it. ;)

Death is the one thing that we can't really know about.  It has fascinated us for quite a long time.  It seems natural that some insane person would make films like this.  But I don't really know anything about it.  I'm not saying that I am interested in seeing these films, but if they actually do exist it would be interesting to know by who and how and why.

The people who think the idea of snuff films are cool disgust me.  I really wonder if those people have enough common sense to dress themselves in the morning.

Heck, you can find 'em all over the internet. Usually, they're on a skateboard or bike and trying to get a popular Youtube video...

I don't think "pwning" one's self counts as snuff film.  :)
