I'm deeply curious as to how that Rudolf cartoon ever made it to the public airwaves.  At any point during the storyboarding, writing, animating, coloring, finishing, dubbing, or editing process did ANYBODY say, "Huh.  Certain moments here seem... suggestive"?  Was the media seriously this naive a few Presidents ago?  Or are we now in a culture which is far too quick to find The Sex in every little moment?

Eh.  Perhaps I should just continue my seasonal heavy drinking.

Doctor Who?

It never went out on the airwaves,it was a short that was run before a main feature in 1944.  It was one of dozens that were being made by the Flesher studios at the time so they may not have been paying that much attention to the content.

I've seen it on a cheap special that used to air annualy on WZMY in Derry, New Hampshire. It was a bunch of old Christmas cartoons put together as a holiday special. IIRC it was also on a Christmas edition of "Off Beat Cinema" which airs late night on weekends on many RTV affiliates.

No need. Fixed it for ya.

You know, I have this nagging feeling I've seen the first short before-- on WGN, settling down after Midnight Mass with the televised Yule Log.  Also included?  Some Snap, Crackle and Pop-style freakout featuring elves named Hardrock, Coco, and Joe.

Put it this way...there's how many years between that "Rudolph" short and the "Ding-A-Ling" Spy Robot with his hidden camera...?

Some things they knew but figured it was kids and they don't think that way...

Meanwhile, did you know it's only very recently that broadcasters have been able to say that the temperature outside is 69....?  It was always 68 or 70 no matter what.

I demand evidence of this.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I've seen this "Rudolph" before. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've never seen the other "Rudolph," the one everyone else has seen. Stop-motion or Claymation or whatever the heck it is never interested me, even as a kid.

Well Bugs Bunny dressed in drag and kissed Elmer Fudd full on the lips, and a lot of other things like that. Dirty thoughts are in old cartoons, maybe kids just didn't notice them as much.

Well, but that was full-on drag humor.  What we saw last night was hung robots and, um.... never mind, I'm emotionally scarred and can't talk about this no more.

When I say the name Max Fleischer (sp) and saw how beautiful the animation was, I was wondering what would be so riff worthy about..... then the characters starting speaking   :D

They ran most of those before the main features at night for adults....
