Was I the only person NOT expecting Weird Al to sing?

I never thought that it was implied, though reading around here a little it seems as though it was.

However, I thought he'd do more than one short...but I loved it!

Me Stan. Bachomp Ba chuey chomp.  Ba Chuey chomp.

I don't think it was necessarily implied by any of the advertising but considering he is a singer you kind of expect it, especially considering the amount of songs that were sung at the last live show that didn't feature one of the most famous comedy singers around as a guest star.  Even if he didn't sing, he should have been a bigger part of the show than he was.  I think the contest winner got more camera time than Al.

Lazarus Dark

It wasn't that they said he would, but it's what he freakin does. It's what he's known for. That plus the last show had a couple songs and as the previous poster said, they didn't even have the most famous comedic singer of all time for that show.

Zombie

No, I didn't expect any songs from him.  After he did such a fantastic job guest riffing Jurassic Park I was expecting him to be the Fourth Talking Head.  I too was a little sad he only did one short instead of most/all of them.

He's not a one-trick dancing circus monkey, he's good at other things too.

It was in no way implied by the advertising, I was just hoping he would.  :'(

Even if he didn't sing....after seeing what he can do with a sketch (having followed him since Dr. Demento through "Al TV" on MTV and "The Weird Al Show") I was thinking there would be a Christmas related bit done with the guys live on stage....

Instead it was "I made sure to show up tonight to refuse to riff with you because I'm a Born-Again Vegetarian...now talk me into it."

RoninFox

He wasn't billed as "musical guest" like Jonathan Colton was, so I wasn't sure.  I figired it would be a possibility that he'd have a song, but as it was he worked in some musical riffs, so that was cool.

Yeah, that sequence had all the spontaneity of Oscar presenter banter.  I mean, obviously the Mike and Co banter is also scripted but they make it real in their delivery.

I'm just gonna say it. Weird Al's whole performance felt phoned-in, and I say that because I know he can be so much better.

Only aspect of the show our group really didn't like.  We know these are naturally funny guys, so it would have been cool to not have everything between the riffs so.  tightly.  scripted.

Invisible NanoGhost

I didn't expect that he would sing, but it wouldn't have surprised me if he did.  I did expect that he'd be there for longer than he was, though.

Maybe I'm just used to it because all the feature film intros are also tightly scripted but still funny.  But I do see your point.  Maybe the visual element detracts from it.
