also, Twilight is better than The Princess Bride

QuoteTw Staff: Reading Twilight it came to me the story of Westley and Buttercup. Is Bella and Edward love, True Love like theirs?

Stephenie: Actually Bella and Edward love story is better than them. When I was in college I wrote a l paper from a feminist perspective (it's an easy way to write) on the princess bride so I am little biased. The problem I have with Westley and Buttercup is Buttercup is an idiot and it doesn't bother anyone, all that matters is that she's beautiful, that is her only value. At the end she redeems herself a bit, but the female characters are very weak in that story. Westley is brave and smart and fights, Buttercup is just beautiful, it's her only thing: her brain means nothing, her personality means nothing to him, they have the kind of love where they can't leave without each other. It's not a great example to me. I couldn't find one who was a really good comparison to me, I mean, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr.Darcy's it's pretty good, except you should think that if either one of them dies the other one will carry on bravely, and Romeo and Juliet were kind of idiots, they didn't know each other very well. And Anna Of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe (Anna dai capelli rossi), but they are much more like Jacob and Bella, they're friend they get the nerves of each other a lot. I didn't find out yet a Bella and Edward love story that really satisfied me that way.

Okay...."it's pretty good, except you should think that if either one of them dies the other one will carry on bravely" is something good according to Meyer but in "New Moon" Bella gets self-destructive and withdrawn to the point that she's inert and Edward immediately wants to kill himself when he thinks Bella's dead....

This woman is certifiable.   >:(

Feminist.   I do not think that word means what she thinks it means.     I mean, I know the woman has a few screws loose, but actually trying to argue that Westley and Buttercup fail at love, whereas Bella and Edward are love incarnate....

Granted, if you actually read what passes as the actual book, Buttercup really is a walking idiot for some of it.   And unwashed for the first part.   But I'd still take that version of her over any version of Bella.

if you like the unhealthy relationship of Bella and Edward, you'll love that Meyers has Bella getting on a motorcycle with some random biker she picks up in front of a bar.....

That's just the movie...

You're right..I stand corrected.  What she did in the book is go up to them because she thought they were the same guys who were going to sexually assault her in the first book...and was then disappointed and lost interest when they weren't.  Then, Meyer's seems to want to make her friend Jessica appear to be a pain because she gets upset that Bella did something so dumb.

Actually, it seems the movie understood that there needed to be a better link between Bella's self-destructiveness and her interest in motorcycles than the book gives....that after she's moping around and thumping her head against the steering wheel of her truck she sees an "as is" one for sale....

Holy Shit...

I'm convinced that Stephanie Meyer inbibed several narcotics and just wrote whatever bollocks came to her head, because she knew the Twilight fans would just buy this regardless. This is just insane... and I so want it to be filmed.

Can you imagine what Taylor Lautner's face must have looked like when he read this?

I'd still like to know who at the publishing house looked at this and said, "This is great stuff!!!"

And what was in that post is only the tip of the iceberg.  These books are so horrible.  You think the movie is bad? Read the books.  In the movies, Bella appears to be a genius when you contrast her to her whiny, emo, spoiled teenage brat of a book character.

I feel cheated because someone told me that Bella becomes a "strong, badass vampire" in the end and she in fact didn't even really change from page 1. She's just Bella, the immortal mopey teen mom now.

After reading that CHUD.com article I googled "Breaking Dawn movie" to see if there was any news about when/if it was going to get made and it turns out they're talking about making it into two movies: http://www.okmagazine.com/2009/12/twilight-saga-bosses-plan-to-make-breaking-dawn-into-two-movies/

I must be a masochist.... I just spent $15 on the Twilight DVD so I can see it for the first time.. riffed of course. This is gonna be pain... This is gonna make Glitter, Crossroads, and Grey's Anatomy look like a cake walk... *whimper*

In retrospect, it's better than New Moon.....

Hardwick at least applied some style to the first film.

Made by the guy who made New Moon no less. I guess we can stop dreaming about the super-crazy adaptation (still gotta hold out for Cronenberg, though).

The Twilight riff is hilarious though, its the only way to watch that dreadfull movie.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

It's actually not too bad when you watch it riffed. The commentary keeps you from really thinking too much about what you're seeing and it just comes across as boring.
