I love the riffs, I was a huge MST3K fan, saw Mike & Kevin in person at Exoticon... and otherwise couldn't be more into supporting y'all.

But...

At $1-$2 a riff, I'd buy anything without much thought.  Bought as much as I could watch.

At $3 a riff, I didn't give it much thought, but some.  Bought a couple per month.

At the present $4 a track, I can buy  maybe one a month, but feel it's pretty expensive.

At $5 per?  Well, not sure I'd buy more than one or two a year.  No amount of fandom would keep me from feeling like I wasn't getting a good deal.

$5 is also the level at which I quit seeing movies in the theater.  First just at night, but then the matinees went over, and now I only see a theater movie maybe once or twice a year.

By comparison, Netflix is running me the equivalent of $1-$2 per rental.  Twice as much for the riff as the movie, is just starting to feel bad.

Maybe it's just me, but there's my feedback.. Take it for what it's worth.

That seems reasonable enough.  But I don't think the prices have actually gone up in quite some time.

The price of the track roughly follows the amount of effort that went into making it.  So one- and two-man riffs are generally cheaper than the standard $3.99 three-man jobbies.  In fact, they've just released the two-riffer Drag Me to Hell and the relatively short Maniac at $2.99.

Likewise, a long-ass film like Titanic requires a lot more work to write, so that one costs $4.99.  As far as I know, that's the only track to date that has been that expensive, save the VODs which, again, require a lot more work for RIffTrax to make and a lot more bandwidth for them to serve.

By the way, $5 is when you quit watching movies at the theater?  So you haven't been to a cinema since, what, 1983?

Yes, our prices have not been raised in a very long time.  Obviously Titanic is an exception, I'm pretty sure it was about half an hour longer than the longest movie we had done up until it.

Tracks with Kevin and Bill, ie, most of what we do cost more because of hotels, flights as well.  When we polled people back in the early days of RiffTrax, the overwhelming majority said having all three guys was worth an extra buck and it seems to have played out that way so far.

Doctor Who?

The prices are fine.  The most I have ever payed for a rifftrack is $5.  That is cheap compared to MST3K DvDs.

I feel like I'm being Jipped! ;D
I'm a poor boy and need all the pennies I can round up to support my RiffTrax addiction :P

i had always been curious about that.  I wondered whether or not the three guys did their riffs in person.  i'm sure it would be hard to coordinate, but couldn't kevin and bill do their part seperately or over the phone?  i know some DVD commentaries are done with different folks accross the country.  don't know if that's the same.

BathTub

Geez it's not like they need anymore encouragement to phone in their performances!

I don't think you'd get the same chemistry if all of them weren't in the same room. There's a lot of give and take between the riffers that just wouldn't be possible if absolutely everything was scripted (laughs and other reactions to each other included). I'd rather pay the premium for all three guys. Besides, you can always pick and choose which Rifftrax to get. This isn't Pokemon, you don't have to have them all.

obviously, you're not as obsessive-compulsive as I.
