Um....I'm confused....

I thought Twlight was for brain-damaged "tweet" girls and that Spike TV was a network for men with extra chromosomes....

QuoteSpike TV jumps on the 'Twilight' and 'True Blood' bandwagon for SCREAM 2009

Let's be honest, if hardcore horror fans turn their noses up at anything it's "The Twilight Saga," but Spike TV is jumping on the phenomenon by making "New Moon" a centerpiece of  "SCREAM 2009."

The network announced today that the pseudo awards show will feature cast members from "New Moon" as well as the debut of new footage from what is expected to be one of November's biggest releases.  Who will appear from the cast is unclear, but it would be surprising for Summit to drag Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson from Vancouver for the event while they are still shooting "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." Our guess? "New Moon" vampire and "Underworld" franchise star Michael Sheen or the members of the Wolfpack (with shirts on for this crowd).

Sooooooo.....great.  They get the little girls to tune in long enough to watch the Twilight 2 stuff...then they'll take one look at the rest of the network, go "Ewww!" and never tune in again.   And the guys will probably zone out the minute the thing is mentioned....

Who wins?

Yeah, that is a headscratcher alright????????

How did that turn into simply an age thing (other than ScottH being involved, that is)?

It would be the same thing if Spike started showing "Sex and the City".  The point is it's a "girly" thing on a "titties and beer" network. How is there any hope for "crossover" there?

It was mostly this:

And you take issue with that statement?  Would it also make me an "old fart" to think that the "Baby Sitters Club" books were meant for young girls?

As for the "brain-damaged" part.....you have at least seen the movie, right?

I have, I took my young cousin.

Funny you should specifically mention who "The Baby Sitters Club" is meant for because the target audience of  Twighlight is exactly my point.  Neither the books nor the series are aimed at a majority of the members of the board and yet people chose to be outraged and disgusted by their existance, which reminds me of a cranky old person calling into talkback radio to complain about "the young people" (although I accept talkback radio isn't intended for me either but my comments are meant in parody)

I don't think this specifically makes you "an old" fart, I think it's more needlessly rude and arrogant.  However given you finding fault in pop-culture is as well known as my arguing against that behaviour I should have known we'd enter the same circular argument before I even posted.

Yeah, like the Rifftrax of Twilight never brings up the problems with the same aspects of the books and the movies - everything from Meyers "re-inventing" vampire lore to the bad writing ("I was really afraid they'd lose all the "Okays" from the book....") to passing off the clingy, destructive relationship of Bella and Edward as love ("So, his murders aren't a problem . . .?", "She loves him for him not killing her, that's healthy").

Or do you consider Mike, Kevin and Bill needlessly arrogant "Old Farts" with a problem with pop-culture as well?

Occasionally yes, which I've said before.  Although I'm unsure how what 3 other people think is relevant to this conversation, unless you decided on your stance based on what they think.

Their opinion is relevant because - since you don't agree with their attitude and jokes about pop culture - I'm wondering what your attraction to Rifftrax is then.

Or do you get the commentaries to make fun of the guys to yourself?

Again, I'm not clear on how differences of opinion between Mike, Bill, Kevin and myself is related to your opinion but I'll address your points, strange as they are.

You'll notice I said 'occasionally', I've either not purchased or not finished Cloverfield, Halloween, The Phantom Menace, etc because of the relentlessly negative attitude (which I probably have mentioned on the threads for those riffs).  Much like I do with the books, movies and pop-culture in general I chose the riffs I think I'll enjoy and don't dwell on the ones that don't appeal to me.

No, I don't purchase riffs to make fun of them although that's quite a meta idea.  Maybe there's an iRiff market for that, dumb riffs of clever movies (Obvious Science Theater?)

Yes, but there are plenty of "cross over" riffs....."Where's the Cloverfield monster when you need it?", "No, Ana-kin - don't mix it with sand or it will explode", etc. - that don't pertain to that title being Rifftrax that might offend you.

Maybe you should avoid this altogether.

Avoid what?  You keep going back to the riffers thoughts as though that's who I was addressing and making less sense each time.

I was just making a joke, but yeah a channel touted as being a "network for men" shouldn't really be attempting to show things related to a film series targeted at teenage girls
