Zombie-Thon: October 2009

In celebration of Halloween 2009, i'll be watching zombie movies all month long. Please join me, won't you?

Let's see how many zombie movies we can rack up in one month! Go ahead and post your zombie movie reviews, thoughts and whatever else here. Obviously i can't keep you honest, but please try to actually watch the movie you review during the month of October. So... rather than simply post a review of Dawn Of The Dead or your favorite zombie movie, actually dig it out and watch it again!

Warning: Some movie trailers will be graphic, and a few reviews may contain spoilers!

Good luck... and always aim for the head!

Resident Evil: Degeneration

This is a full length CG movie based on the Resident Evil games (obviously.) And, after playing RE5, it's nice to see Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield do battle with hordes of actual zombies again... as opposed to infected villagers or whatever. The entire movie takes place in an airport completely overrun by the undead, which really helps to create a dreadful, claustrophobic feeling: An essential ingredient for any zombie movie, in my opinion! There's also some sort of conspiracy theory plot but, like the games themselves... everything seems to end with the Umbrella Corporation and a giant question mark.

Best Scene: The movie really kicks into game mode as Leon jumps and ducks while running from a classic Resident Evil monster. I could practically see the Quicktime prompts on the screen telling me which buttons to push.

Worst Scene: Anything with that creepy-looking little girl. Her soulless eyes are scarier than any zombie.

Funniest Scene: Zombies randomly fall to the ground as they try to exit a crashed airplane.

Hell Of The Living Dead

Craptacular! Apparently some corporation unleashed a green cloud of something or other that turns people into zombies. A lame SWAT team of some sort is sent to investigate, and eventually joins forces with an anthropologist and her cameraman. They roam around, doing nothing in particular, before discovering the horrible truth behind the whole mess.

Best Scene: Before heading into a village of aborigines (or a bunch of stock footage of aborigines, anyway) the female anthropologist rips open her shirt like Superman. She then proceeds to lead the SWAT team into the village wearing nothing but leaves and tribal make-up.

Worst Scene: One member of the SWAT team decides to dress up in a lime green tutu and a top hat while searching for zombies in the basement of a house.

WTF? Moment: There was so much stock footage, i had no idea which villagers were zombies and which weren't. It definitely rivaled anything Ed Wood ever attempted.

Relaxing Dragon

Alright, my motivation scale has finally been tipped. This month I will finally get around to watching Shock Waves, Zombi 2, and Dead Snow (assuming I can find it).

Sweet! Welcome to the celebration!

I'll be watching Zombi 2 again as well, and Dead Snow is pretty fun... i'm stoked to hear your reviews or thoughts or whatever. I'm sure that a few of us will be watching quite a few of the same movies. But it'll be neat to see what everyone thinks.

28 Days Later

I don't care... this totally counts as a zombie movie. Deal with it.
Anyway, some animal liberation nuts set loose an infection that drives men into a bloodthirsty fit of rage. Twenty eight days later Cillian Murphy wakes up naked in an empty hospital and goes looking for an explanation. He finds a sort of zombie infested, post-apocalyptic London. This movie was mostly filmed on video and looks really gritty, which serves the film pretty well considering the theme and everything. Plus, 28 Days Later can go from totally quite to super-mega, wake-the-neighbors and set-off-car-alarms loud in a split second. Totally scary!

Best Scene: A single drop of blood falls directly into the eye of a hero... and infects him.

Worst Scene: Gah! I don't want to see Cillian Murphy's junk!

Best Death Scene: Selena doesn't think twice about immediately hacking and bashing her pal to a bloody pulp once he's infected. Brutal.

mr.b.natural

Funny, I was planning on a bunch of Zombie/horror movies this year as well.  I usually do Romero movies every October but this year I will expand a bit.  That "Hell of the Living Dead" looked interesting, I like 28 Days Later, and I have been meaning to watch "Degeneration" for a while now.  I'm not sure I will be doing much reviewing but know that I am with you in spirit.  Don't forget to watch "Zombie Strippers."

Bob

There is also a very funny iriff for "Resident Evil - Degeneration", so that helps too.

All right. I'll join in as well, time permitting.

But I'm not rewatching "Motorcross Zombies" or "Zombies gone Wild" again.

Dont forget "Redneck Biker Zombies"

(Checks Netflix)

Ah. Troma. I've already sat through their "Zombiegeddon" and "Poultygeist" flicks. I'll give this one a pass as Ive already done my time in Tromaville.

I've seen that and I think the DVD is still around here somewhere... I love the ridiculously evil Penguin-like senator.

I'd like to submit some lesser known zombie movies for your consideration. I urge you to check them out if you haven't already. For the masochists like me that actually enjoy watching bad movies, there are some real gems on this list.

Fido, Dead and Breakfast, Wild Zero, Die You Zombie Bastards!, Redneck Zombies, Dead Alive (Brain Dead) ( is this that obscure, actually?), Zombie Honeymoon, Plane Dead, The Mad -BILLY ZANE!-, Slither, Undead, Vampires v. Zombies, and Corpses are Forever.

I really liked Fido, Dead Alive and Slither.    Probably Slither the best out of the group.

Don't forget "Flight of the Living Dead".

Don't forget "Flight of the Living Dead".

Actually, that's an alternate title for Plane Dead. I liked that one pretty well. I don't remember it well, but I remember it didn't fuck around. There were zombies and death... and a plane.
