Program Suggestion

I was wondering if it was ever proposed that some form of a very basic program could be constructed to sync the Rifftrack with the DVD on the computer precisely. I am always frustrated when DisembAudio is not perfectly lipsyncing with the movie by even a little bit. If such a program that utilized very basic code to press play on the dvd program and the mp3 file (such as iTunes) simultaneously, or perhaps some other method of syncing them directly, my enjoyment of the Rifftrax product would be greatly increased. Thank you/

You're in luck. There is such a program and it's called ShareCrow. It's not the easiest to use (in some opinions) but it certainly does what it is you want.

Try it out and if you do have problems let us know, and we'll help you know.

That will be changing soon.  A new incredibly easy and incredibly functional version of Sharecrow is on the way.  So don't worry, all your hopes and dreams will be realized.

Just as an aside...
I am assuming Sharecrow only works if you are trying to combine the DVD and rifftrax on a DVD-(+)R ('cause if it is, it is useless to me as my DVD recorder is a stand-alone and not on my PC---even if it was, my HD is far too small to record a DVD file.)

I am also assuming sharecrow will not work to sync-up the rifftrax on mp3 (assuming the computer plays the mp3 without "hiccups") with a DVD with 2 layers that pauses between layers?

Actually, I am going to try to record the DVD to VHS, then sync the VHS with the MP3 (using one channel VHS and one channel MP3...I know, I will lose the Dolby Surround from the DVD, plus probably a VERY poor video) to DVD-R and see if that works.

Those assumptions are actually very incorrect, which is why I like sharecrow.  Nothing is permanent, there is no recording or actual combining.  All sharecrow does is make sure that the dvd and the mp3 are playing at the same time.  It takes care of hicups on your dvd player, and also allows you to pause the dvd and the rifftrax with one button.  It's not perfect, and it sometimes it does drift a bit, but it's fairly easily fixed.  You can also save your setting, so you don't have to sync it to the dvd every time.

You don't need to do any recording, all you need is a dvd drive on your computer.  And yes, is will still sync your mp3 with a dual layer disc.  Though again, it's not perfect.  On the new version it will be much easier to correct mistakes when they occur.  You can still correct drift on this version, but you have to go through an menu to do it.

If you have a DVD drive on your computer, then you can load the mp3 file onto your computer's hard drive and sync that up with the disc in your computer's DVD drive.

However, if you're saying that your DVD drive is stand-alone, then that will be an issue. Sharecrow is intended to sync up the mp3 file from a folder on your computer's hard drive with a DVD playing in the DVD drive of your computer simultaneously.

Sorry for any confusion.

You should be able to achieve the same effect, with some minor resyncing involved if the VHS tape is stretched out or plays slightly too slowly, etc.

Yeah...I assumed that and do have a DVD drive I can (but don't really want to) hook-up; however, my C: drive only has 1.4 MB free and even though my other drives have plenty of space, I am assumming the lack of space on my C: drive prevents much editing.

I think you still miss understand.  You do not need to transfer the dvd to your hard drive to use sharecrow.  It plays it straight from the dvd drive.  It will take up 0 space on your computer.  All you need is space enough to fit the mp3.

P.S. Also, it's really un safe to have your drives that full.  A professor at my school had an external hard drive completely crash because he un intentionally tried to capture more video footage to the drive than it had space for.  The drive was toast after that.  In other words, don't fill up your drives.

Yes, I know... ;)
I really don't have a choice, except to swap my larger D: drive with my C: drive; reset the jumpers, reset the cables, reinstall WXP, reinstall all my programs, and then contact Microsoft and reset WXP for the new configuration (at least swapping the CD writer with a DVD drive won't make me have to re-register WXP with the "Home Base" unless I do it more than 3 times every 4 month).

ahhhh, alright, i get it now.  That, my friend, sucks.  And I thought I needed a new computer.

Also, I see I said 1.4 MB above.
I, of course, meant 1.4GB :-[

Actually, I think my "hybrid" DVD-V/VHS+MP3=DVD-R may work in the end.
I can listen to the MP3 on the computer, and watch the DVD on TV, but just wanted a more "stable" version to watch on my TV (which has a far larger screen than the computer as well).

Yeah, I hear ya.  What I usually do is run Sharecrow on a lap top, then use the s-video out to connect it to my tv.  Then hook up my wireless mouse so I can sit on the couch and adjust things if needed, like volume or drift.
