I think a few posters, in this thread, need to get laid.  ;)

Maybe I'm crazy... but I've always enjoyed Michael Bay movies because they suck... not in spite of it.

You're not crazy. You get it. Some of us like big, stupid fun and go into a movie expecting big, stupid fun and nothing more.

Absolutely.  :)

If it was big stupid fun and nothing more, I'd like these movies. The failed attempts at comedy relief and all the stupid jabbering dialogue just makes it too irritating to sit through, though. There are good movies that satisfy my desire for explosions and action, and there are bad movies that satisfy the same desire without padding themselves with unfunny jokes and worthless characters. There's nothing that Transformers does that another movie doesn't do better, including explosions and action.

Doctor Who?

To sum up this thread  Every movie ever made is great and anyone who doesn't like a movie should be allowed to speak!

Also choosing what you are going to spend your money on makes you a snob.

I would just like to state this for the record I am a film snob and proud of it.  There is nothing to be ashamed of if you want a good movie for your money.  Who is with me?  Snobs of the world unite!

There are more people in this thread bashing the movie than praising it, dude. Ever think you may be...I don't know...overreacting just a tad?

Doctor Who?  Overreacting?!  NO!
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

This isn't about people liking or disliking the movie it's about the way some people keep insisting that not liking a movie or saying that it was bad after paying $10 for it makes you a snob.  Also that being a snob is something to be ashamed of.  I don't care what anyone thinks about this movie I just don't like the way some people are acting.

It's not being a snob to say you didn't like it.  That's your right.  If you don't get the difference between saying you don't like a movie and "I have the special advantage of being able to criticize this film from the perspective of a non-fanboy, and I can tell you quite simply - it SUCKS.  Audiences deserve better than this.  And to say that this is the best Hollywood can do is simply wrongheaded thinking - plain and simple." etc. then you're blind. (and that's just the most recent thing like that in this thread.  Pretty much this whole thread is if you like you transformers, you're a stupid fanboy or a redneck idiot..

One is saying for you the movie is not good, the other is insulting to the people who did like it.  Yes, there are people with other tastes than you in the world.  That'd be like me going to a steakhouse and saying "I can't believe anyone eats that crap.  You must have a low IQ to eat red meat, you dumb bastard."  I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate that.

Granted, I don't expect better from the rifftrax forum, being that we're here to basically be movie snobs.

The thought process going through someone's head as they write a rebuttal to that: "But steaks are something I like, which means they're good! It's different!"

Exactly. I have absolutely no desire to see Transformers 2, but I don't go around claiming that everyone who enjoyed it is somehow inferior to me in intelligence. I may claim that the DIRECTOR is inferior to me in intelligence, of course... :P

Quote from: BBQ Platypus on June 29, 2009, 11:22:07 AMI mean, if you like it that's...okay, I guess.  I don't think I'll ever be able to understand WHY you like it, but...you're entitled to your opinion.  I'll just stand back and regard you safely, from a very, very long distance away.  And maybe go sit in a corner and weep quietly for humanity for a little while.

Hey, I know, I'll jump in hours after the fact and without reading the comments after this post.  That's how I roll. :)

[my opinion]
Not every created object need be "art" or "the best it can be" or even "good".  Sometimes schlock is just what the doctor ordered, and I don't personally see anything wrong with that, so no need to weep.  I have no doubt that someone could write, direct, and produce a truly "good" movie about giant talking robots that are also cars, and that fight each other.  But isn't that a little bit of gild on that lily?  In other words, why bother?  Make 'em look good, move 'em from fight scene to fight scene as entertainingly as possible, and lean back and rake in the dough.

As I've said before, if a movie/song/book/sculpture aims for a solid "7" and buries the arrow feathers-deep right on target, why "weep" that it wasn't a "10"?  Who's being let down by the achievement?

Doctor Who?

If you ask me anything Bay makes is a 0.

Also this movie is going to be the biggest entertainment event of all time, that makes me sad.

People would rather have things going boom, sex, fart jokes, and badly shot scenes then have good plotting, well shot scenes, and great acting.  That makes me sad.

Saw this the other day and it is not as bad as   everyone say's it is

Dude, it's Transformers 2, not Citizen Kane. Calm down.

You didn't read the post, did you?  I didn't say I wanted Citizen Kane - I said I wanted an action movie that didn't suck.  I don't think that's a whole lot to ask for.  The standards I had for this movie were quite low - and it failed to meet even the standards of a decent popcorn movie.  This is the third time I've explained that no, I was not, in fact, expecting Shakespeare.

I'm not complaining because it wasn't Citizen Kane.  I'm complaining because it wasn't GOOD.  Learn the difference.

If I sound pissy it's because I honestly haven't hated a big studio movie this much since Ocean's Twelve.  Forgive me for venting - my anger is directed not at you, but at the people responsible for making this movie in the first place.  Any collateral damage is entirely incidental.
