Watching this movie again, its amazing how truly good it is.

Just trying to get a conversation running on it.  any thoughts on the movie?

Lt Dans personality i find rather interesting.  Why did he have such a suicide complex?

Awesome Soundtrack, though I don't think the movie has aged well.

When I first saw it I was amazed at the effects, but they bug the hell out of me now. Of course the actual message of the movie is pretty crap.

dignan

Yeah, for me, it didn't age well at all.  I saw some of it on tv not too long ago, and I was amazed just how much I could no longer stand the movie.  Although, I am fond of randomly shouting out, "Lieeeeeutenant Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!" for reasons I can't quite explain.

please explain this, i dont understand and im pretty sure i dont agree.

As far as the effects go yea, some of it doesnt look as cutting edge but the movie itself is still really good, im watching as we speak and i got to say its still good acting.

I have to say that Forrest Gump is a terrible movie. I can't stand it. In fact, I think it should be riffed.

Here is a quote from someone from the MST3K Forum, about Forrest Gump and I agree with it:

QuoteWhat's even worse is the message that if you love a girl, and are persistent enough, even though she's a junkie, an emotional wreck, and treats you like crap your whole life, she'll eventually become desperate/high enough to have pity sex with you, and then run out on you again, and then come back to you when she knows she's dying of AIDS, just so you can raise the kid she didn't tell you about when she was healthy.

Viva life!

:)

I read a review once that said it much more clearly that I can say now. Forrest Gump succeeds at life (and I have read the book which is even crazier than the movie) by being the feather on the wind. People with dreams and goals like Jenny, suffer.

sarcasm_made_Easy

yes i clearly think the movie is intentionally generalizing all people in that situation.  its clearly a how to video about what you should do about your junkie girlfriend.

seriously though man don't you think its a smaller idea that maybe some people deserve redemption?  its not like she her life was good or enjoyable.  She suffered due to her poor choices.

I think the real story is more about his interesting life and the interesting people he was able to meet.

The characters are genuinely interesting.

I like Forrest Gump.  I know it's politically and ideologicall suspect, but Hanks is very winning in the movie, as is Hayley Joel Osmond.

sarcasm_made_Easy

whats politcally suspect?  i am not disagreeing in any way i am just curious how it was.  the politics of this just dont jump out at me at all.

Bob

My favorite quote about the movie was from John Waters (the director of "Hairspray" and many other films) when someone asked him if he like Forest Gump and he said something like "when Forest started to run and his leg braces came off I left the cinema".

sarcasm_made_Easy

i don't think john waters is really in a good position to criticise zemeckis.  :)

Well, Lloyd Kaufman noted that: "Gump's successes result from doing what he is told by others, and never showing any initiative of his own, in contrast to Jenny's more forthright and independent character who is shown descending into drugs, prostitution, and death."  Lloyd Kaufman is the head of Troma, though.   :)

If that message is present in the movie, I certainly don't think it's an intentional one.  As I said, I like the movie.

sarcasm_made_Easy

whats troma?

This is true gump always did what he was told, but he also always lived up to his word.

Its true what you say and i never thought of it that way, but as i AM in the military i am some what sympathetic :)

Course its hard to underwrite the amount of luck he had as well.
