Can someone please explain the part with the tuxedos and the football?

Because, as ridiculous as everything in this movie was, this enraged me more than anything.

Because REAL men play football, even on their wedding day / wedding rehearsal day.

The whole "movie" has a different tone if you realize that Tommy is essentially saying that men are knights in shining armor who love their best friends and will even pay their almost-adopted neighbor/son, who like football and don't drink, but women are selfless beings who manipulate, cheat, lie, and drive a man to drink himself to suicide.

I think it was the EW article (or the Onion A/V club article) that pretty much says, some woman broke Tommy's heart and this is his response.

Well geeze, I hate women too, but I never considered making a movie about it.  I think this theme was particularly apparent when Mark is left completely blameless.  "Oh sure, I repeatedly slept with my best friend's girlfriend, but it's not MY fault.  I have no free will, remember?"  It takes two to tango or have gross, gauzy sex, douchebag.

On the other hand, maybe Lisa's overpowering enchanting beauty truly was too much to resist.  Maybe Lisa and the genetics from her cancer having harpy mother were solely to blame.

That part shone through so much at the ending.  I know I've dreamed of enacting a suicide-based-revenge like that on the people who have wronged me, with the noted disadvantage being that I'd be too deceased to enjoy it.  I also don't think it would play out that cheesily.

But God, that football scene makes me want to beat the crap out of Wiseau more than anything.  WHY WERE THEY WEARING TUXEDOS????????

But what about Michelle's character? She was trying to get Lisa to stop her MAN ipulation. heh.

Bob

Michelle was obviously evil too as she hurt her idiot boyfriend to the point that he went down like a sack of potatoes when he was handed a football.

I think the poor guy probably needed several weeks in the hospital.

Football is far too dangerous for anyone but pros to handle.

Tyrant

If one is stupid brave enough, Tommy talks about the tuxedo/football thing in his "interview" on the DVD's special features.

Courtney

Does he mention why they're hanging out in their tuxes when it is stated ad nauseum that the wedding isn't till "next month"?

Tyrant

I vaguely recall it being mentioned in the movie that they were having photos for the upcoming wedding being taken that day. I don't recall him verifying that in the interview, though.

Courtney

Well that makes the kind of sense that doesn't.  But I guess in Wiseau's former homeland of Accentonia, they do that kind of thing a month in advance instead of the day of.

Can someone explain to me why they showed Johnny & Mark going for a run?  Was that their way of showing they were "best friends" and just "hanging out"?  Or is it as Crow once said "that scene brought to you by the superfluous foundation".

I think it was to show how far Johnny had come at catch.  Now he can catch a ball from 10 feet away instead of 5!

I was living in fear that the whole point of that scene was to have them neck.    It may be in the "deleted scenes" on the DVD, but I am afraid to look.    I do not have enough nerve yet to view scenes that Tommy did not think were good enough!

The Deleted Scenes menu should have been renamed "The Deleted Scene" because the only thing in it really was an alternate Denny/Drug scene. It was pretty much the exact same scene as the one used only it takes place in the same alley they're playing football in in tuxedos rather than the rooftop.

I'm amused that we're trying to find some sanity in The Room where none exists. Tommy had a vision. It included him proving how evil and manipulative women are, how awesome he is, him getting it on with a semi-attractive young woman on camera (Lisa is beautiful, remember?), and him and his buddies balling it in tuxedos. He succeeded in one of those regards.

Courtney

Now that we've got that settled, can someone please explain to me just what the hell is happening to his skin when his shirt's off?  It's awkwardly wrinkly, but not in an old guy way, more in a very concentrated cellulite way... oh hi, chunks rising in my throat.  Seriously, I cannot unsee.

Yes, his skin is highly disturbing.  It made the sex scenes extra scarring too.
