:speechless: Do I need all four parts of the download to get the whole movie?

RoninFox

Yup.  It's a set of archive files and you need them all and a program that can unzips rar files to get the whole movie.

Thanks for the info; I downloaded the rar program linked on the rifftrax page. It is going to take forever to get all of them.

RoninFox

Yeah a full movie makes for a huge download, I think they've said that's the reason they split it up like that.  That way if your download gets interrupted or something you can start with the last file you were on instead of starting from the beginning.

I think in the future adding some PAR files in the mix would be helpful (hint, hint rifftrax)... I had to download it three times due to corrupted downloads (I blame my internet provider). Just a suggestion.

Yeah that would be cool.

I like that idea... I'll look into it. But I'd like to set it up so that it doesn't further confuse users. Suggestions?

That I don't know.  PARs and RARs have been pretty standard on USENET for years and there are still constant questions. Under the current My Files screens it would be quite a mess. For a DVD-5 size you would be best to use 10% pars which could be a number of extra files.

That's tough. I can see how it might confuse the average user never seeing them before. Maybe just have a pop-up box or link next to the files giving a brief explanation. Kind of like a "What is this?" link or something similar.

A Rifftrax download manager would be awesome, but I bet it's not as easy as it sounds (And it doesn't sound easy)

Erik should have said "set it up so that it doesn't confuse users, many of whom still have issues with ZIP files."  I think that as commonplace as RAR files are for many of us, there are still tons of people out there who find them baffling.  Actually, I don't think, I have read the emails, I know.

This would be nice, but we have also learned over the past 2.5+ years that people do not read things.  Just yesterday we received another "I ordered 10 DVDs from you two weeks ago, where are they???" email, from a guy wondering where his twilight, star wars, dark knight, etc DVDs were.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.  So let me give you one of those:

No, and in fact you don't even need electricity.

Personally, I think the idea of a download manager (or even just allowing use of certain existing download managers) would be much more workable than PARs.  The Files screen is already pretty cluttered, especially for those of us who purchase prodigiously.
Don't some download managers use some kind of checksum, checked against the server?

If you want to write that manager for us, go for it :)  We love the idea, but right now we don't have the resources. If we're able to we'll write one, but for now this is the best option we can offer.

Also you might try the new "My Files BETA" page that's up at http://www.rifftrax.com/myfiles - it's much less cluttered.

I'd love to help, but if I was capable of that I'd be making more money right now.  Technically I can call myself a programmer, but VB6 doesn't go very far these days, and I swore off anything Dot-Net-ish years ago.  If I'm going to learn a whole new language it'll be Java or Perl, or something else that Microshaft can't discontinue on a whim.  But that's a whole different rant, and a pretty heated one at that.
I was just weighing in with my 2 cents (now worth only about a ha'penny, thanks to inflation).

I have plenty of stupid answers of my own already.  Thanks anyway.
