Watched the original Honda 1960-ish "Godzilla vs. Mothra" last night.   I had not seen that movie in years, and I had never seent he Japanese version before.

Very enjoyable movie, really brought back a lot of childhood memories.

But, what the heck was the deal with the two pocket sized singing women?    Why did they have to be pocket sized, and why did they have to sing ALL THE TIME.   I have not seen the US version yet, but I am betting most of their singng scenes have been cut.

hehe i think they make it through largely unscathed though maybe one extra rendition of the chorus was cut if i recall correctly,  the american version is worth watching for the frontier missile sequence though.  ive never been a huge fan of the shobijin  but they have been enduring members of the godzilla world.

wish they would put up mechagodzilla

Thanks for the link. Now the stingy among us can view the recommendations here. No Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla though (the 2002 movie), but we'll get to that in good time.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)

Japan's Special Forces (or JSDF) have recovered the body of Mecha-King Ghidorah, and have utilized its technologies to make two weapons: A flying cannon called Garuda, and Mechagodzilla. While on a mission, a team discovers another large egg, though this one is nowhere near the size of the Mothra Egg. Soon after its discover, both Rodan and Godzilla show up. It's notable that Godzilla appears less than 15 minutes into this film. Anyways, G pretty much mops the floor with Rodan and leaves him for dead. The humans take the egg and return to Japan.

Shortly afterwards the egg hatches into a baby godzilla. Humans keep it for a time, but soon Miki realizes that Baby is somehow psychically linked to both Godzilla and Rodan. Not long after Baby's birth, G comes to Japan shores in search of his "son".

G Force (the special forces team created to combat Godzilla) appear in Mechagodzilla. They actually do pretty well, until Godzilla is able to reverse his nuclear energy and fry out MG. He then continues his rampage, basically ignoring MG once he knocks it down. When Godzilla can't find Baby, he trots off to the sea.

Tests on Baby show that he has a second brain in his ass. No I'm not kidding. JSDF conclude that Godzilla must also have a second brain, and adjust their plans. The final act is a clash between MG and Rodan, and finally a knockdown dragout between MG and Godzilla. MechaGodzilla royally hands Godzilla his ass, and literally has G down for the count with a broken back and broken assbrain, until Rodan makes a final run in and somehow transfers his essence into Godzilla. Godzilla stands back up, even stronger than before and lays MG to waste with a new red breath.

Godzilla and Baby then head off somberly into the ocean.

This one gets a 6.5. I liked the story in GvM much better, but this had the best effects yet. Adding Baby into the mix made Godzilla into a sympathetic father figure, and as you know by now I like my Godzilla badass and without any reason of right or wrong. Smashing and feeding of radiation is what he does.

"The new and improved '93 model comes with titanium alloy and CD player standard"

Firsts
-appearance of Mechagodzilla in the Heisei series
-appearance of BabyGodzilla

Last
-appearance of Mecha-King Ghidorah (hey, he's dead!)

Only
-appearance of Rodan in the Heisei series

It's also worth noting that Ishiro Honda was originally slated to direct this film, but died in 1993 shortly before filming began.

Godzilla v mecha godzilla is definitely the best film yet in the heisei series.  i think i prefer the original mecha godzilla design but this one is still awesome.  also this movie shows how they shoulda done baby godzilla before.  its still minorly annoying but if you gotta have a baby.  the effects in this one are pretty great.  i love all the beam effects and when the second brain is destroyed it is all pretty impressive.  i think i thought this was just about the best movie ever when i got it.  there are some lesser parts like the flying machine but overall its a pretty awesome flick 9 out of10

Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994)

The JSDF as pieced together the leftovers of Mechagodzilla, and created MOGUERA (Mobile Operation Godzilla Universal Expert Robot Aero-type). They send it into space to investigate and respond to a space station attack. They fail miserably and go limping back to Earth. Another project, called "Project T" is headed up with Miki in an attempt to psychically control Godzilla, because Miki doesn't think Godzilla should be killed. "It has feelings too". I'm sure the thousands of people that died directly due to Godzilla had feelings as well... Another member of Project T is the cigarette smoking Fuji, who is able to both smoke and snipe.

Anyways, the space monster lands on earth, and is dubbed SPACEGODZILLA because, well... he's a Godzilla... FROM SPACE!!

He made his shoulders out of one of Madonna's bras

SpaceGoodzilla and Godzilla trade a few blows, but SG comes out on top, and imprisons Baby (who somehow looks a lot more baby-like despite being older). For whatever reason, SG flies off, and Godzilla tries to follow by water.

Scientists are able to get some SG cells, and come to the conclusion that SG is a clone of Godzilla, possibly cosmically created when Biollante died and pieces floated away into orbit. Miki is kidnapped by her boss in an effort to force her to control Godzilla, but the Moguera heroes free her.

By this time, SpaceGodzilla has started turning the city of Fukuoka into his lair. He almost instantly grows giant crystals out of the ground, and channels power from them and the large buildings. The Moguera heroes (One of whom was around in the Biollante movie) move in, but again are smacked silly by SG. By the time Godzilla makes it there, SG is at full power and even G's Atomic Breath is useless because SG has created a forcefield.

The heroes soon realize that SG is usuing his huge shoulder-crystals to channel his power, and they use all of Moguera's weapons to shatter them. Godzilla gets pretty pissed by this time and uses his new Red Breath to finish off both SG and Moguera. Fortunately the heroes are able to escape, and Fuji lights up a cigarette while he watches Godzilla once again swim off.

That Baby sure has grown... to silly proportions.

This one gets a 5 at most. The story is just not very good, and the effects aren't nearly as good as the last installment. Space Godzilla does look awesomely badass though. But that alone doesn't merit more than an average at best rating.

worst film of heisei period.  i ahvent got much to say on this that you havent covered.  effects not as good.  moguera is no mecha godzilla, grown up baby is silly looking, no ifukube soundtrack.  for some this is one of my little brothers favorites so much so that at the godzilla film festival he had enough to buy one toy and he got a moguera.  5 of ten sounds good for this one.

by the way moguera actually first appeared in the mysterians a great little sci fi pic from the golden days of toho.  he was a robot controlled by the aliens attempting to control the world.  really enjoyable film if you like japanese sf and a great score by ifukube.

Doctor Who?

I just thought I would pop in and let you guys know that I have only ever seen Godzilla V.s megolon on MST3k,Godzilla 2000,and the 1998 American movie but inspired by this thread I have added all of the Godzillia movies to my Netflix Q and I plan to watch them over the next few months.

Well almost all for some reason Nextflix didn't have the unMSTK3Ked version of Godzilla Vs. megalon,The Return of Godzilla,or Godzilla Vs.Biollante.

Are those movie on Region 1 DvD or VHS,or do i have to order them from Japan?

Also i got my list from this Wiki page...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(franchise)

Is that list complete?

Thanks for your help and sorry to interrupt your thread.

Darn no highspeed.

Damn you Hughesnet!

Any way i am really looking forward to this.

I know nothing about Godzilla so this is going to be very interesting.

What is holding up those two movies any way?

I will see if I can get a hold of them via and program that lets me download content off of a certain site.
