Pixar's Up: Is it only a matter of time before it becomes Dreamworks.

Yeah, I haven't seen Cars but that aside I liked everything they've done.  Personally I thought Ratatouille was a great film and is a sort of bizarre companion piece to Babbette's Feast: two films about the joys of eating and preparing food.

Is it weird that I 100% more likely to cry during an animated movie than a live action one?

Doctor Who?

No I am the same way.

I didn't cry durring Shiendler's List but I found the end of The Iron Giant sad.

I think I can kind of explain, if just partially.  It's all about simplicity.  You see when you take the human image anf boil it down to it's most basic image, then it can become more powerful.  Now that's not the only reason, but I think that certainly plays a part.

Still haven't seen Ratatouille. It's not that I'm avoiding it, it's just that the fates seem to conspire against me seeing it. Every plan I've made to see it has been usurped (So far). Thing is, it might be the most appealing Pixar movie to me ever because I love rodents and cooking. Yet it remains the only Pixar flick I haven't seen (And may always be the only one I never saw in theatres.)

Never thought of that, but it's true--they're both about how food is more than fuel. great idea for a film festival

It's not simplicity, it's exaggerated and manipulative. Otherwise, stick figures would be the most powerful form of expression, and Tom Cruise would not exist.

I am just not looking forward to this one, surprisingly. I love almost all of Pixar's films except for Finding Nemo and Cars. This one just doesn't look entertaining to me. I'll see it, but I'm not anticipating it like I was with Wall-E or Ratatouille. I'm much more looking forward to Monsters VS Aliens, actually.

I'm not saying simplicity always works, I'm saying that there can be power in it.  What's more, there can sometimes be subtlety in exaggeration and art being exaggerated and manipulative isn't necessarily a bad thing. What's more, by boiling these things down to their basic parts, you can emphasise certain aspects more strongly (IE, exaggeration) and  get to the heart of emotions and a fast and straightforward way (manipulation).  Sure, some times it give a film a sense of undeserved emotion, but isn't a movie supposed to effect what an audience feels? Whether the movie chooses to force an emotion... well, that's the film makers choice and oth can be equally valid.   And why can't emotions feel larger than life and bigger than anything.  I mean, that's what makes Looney Toons, so effective: the humour isn't just the violence, often it comes from characters reacting to their situations.

The fact is, you have to except a movie on it's own terms.  Call bullshit when there is something that you see as a problem when the film breaks its own rules, goes against itself or is just poorly made.  You seem to criticizing this movie for having a title that doesn't tell you what the movie's about and for plot elements involving a character's emotional state.  You eem to be upset that a movie has set out to make us feel something.

Now I'm not saying you got to like this movie.  Go ahead.  But if you have chosen to hate this movie, why are you here on this thread.  It seems ridiculous that you seem so invested in trying to pick this movie apart before you've seen it.  You seem to be upset less about the quality of the movie and more about the genre, as if the genre of animation was in itself flawed.  Well, sir, obviously I love mocking movies, but you seem to think that there is only "OK" and "black soul-rotting awfulness" in the world.  You don't really seem to judge these things with an even hand or positively.  And, in all honesty, the way you post implies that you are not really thinking about what you are saying.  You, sir, are more interested in being a troll than adding anything of real depth to a conversation.

What, Rorsharch?  Did you miss the MASSIVE ad campaign for the movie?  Are you one of those "I don't watch TV or look at billboards or go on the internet" people?
