not if you dont delete the partition

Dankbuds

when you are reinstalling windows it will ask you which partition you want to install it to so you pick c:\ then format it either quick or full and then you install it on c:\ as long as you don't delete the partition you'll be fine

1) Would it be better to try for duo core processors rather than a single higher-speed processor? I'm not really a gamer, aside from Civ IV--I don't even have a joystick, for example.

2) Isn't it really shady for someone to sell you a computer without a backup disk? Isn't it possibly even indicative of pirated software?

1) Core2 duo's seem to be the norm these days, which is a good thing, cause they're pretty stout processors.. Definitly better then the single higher speed processors..

2)This is actually the norm (from Dell anyway).. You won't know it's pirated unless you go for updates, but even then it could work just fine.. :-\

yeah newer computers don't come with back up disks they have the backup image on the drive itself but you can usually always go to the manufacturers website and choose the model # and pay a couple bucks plus shipping for them to send you a new disc, if your drive gets damaged or you lose the original disc if it came with one

Damn, sounds like you REALLY need a new machine. Your PC problems would've had me launching the machine a long time ago. 'Course it's harder to use just an abacus...

Since you're not a gamer, you could buy a lot of parts very cheaply to get the job done. Just don't go too cheap - a lot of PC parts that benefit Gaming will also benefit audio/video processing speed.

1) Yep, Core2 Duo all the way - multiprocessing is the way to go, and it's fairly cheap. You can go with a Quad core, but (someone correct me if I'm wrong) you'll need a 64-bit OS to get the most out of it.

2) You mean a PC with the OS installed, right? YEAH, you should have an install disc of some kind and a certified paper license of some kind for it to be legitimate. Not everyone meets those requirements, of course. ;D

Well, I had just bought this damn thing, and almost immediately the stuff didn't work.  As it is, I only got about 2 years of life from it, alas.

look at it this way... now you have more "Crap" to sell on Ebay  :P

Also, get a DVD burner with it and get no less than 2gigs of RAM (DDR2) in your new setup 8)

Well, I suppose I could part it out and try to sell it. I'll probably not though; I'm going to port over the RAM and the video card to the new machine, and maybe one of the disc drives. The rest I'll probably recycle. :/
Donate it and use it as a Tax write-off for your 2009 taxes.. (HINT HINT) 8)

Dankbuds

yeah screw that take it out back and light it on fire while dancing around it naked

Nah. I'll probably (*sigh*) pay to have it recycled so it won't go into a landfill.
It'll probably be sent back to China.. (I saw that on 60 Minutes several weeks back) :scared:

Yeah. $299 plus shipping.

I have a 256 MB graphics card I'll put in it too, and I can do wireless  via a USB key, so I don't need a separate wireless card.
By the way.. Did you have DDR2 memory in your original computer or just DDR??

Don't remember. I'll have to look at the chips. It's only a couple of years old, though.
Yeah, I tried putting DDR in DDR2 slots, and it actually fit, but it would start up..
It acted like a bad power supply, but turns out it was the memory incompatability.. :o
