Is it just me or did it sound like Mike and Bill was ok, but Kevin sounded distant...like he was using a different microphone or something?
Kevin's volume was noticeably quieter.

No biggie, I guess I'm wondering if this will be rectified in the future when there are 3 riffers again?

I haven't gotten this one yet but I'm considering getting it right now and running to blockbuster...

But I can say that Kevin has been much louder than mike was, so maybe they turned him to down to fix it.

Now have you listened to the whole thing already or is that based off of the beginning?

gammer

Just mixing it right now in GoldWave.
The issue is throughout.
Definitely sounds like Kevin is using a "lower quality" microphone.

Maybe the booth is normally only set up for two? :^)

I just got done watching it and I didn't notice that....they all sounded great.

Yeah I believe the way the studio equipment was setup, they were using one or two mics. I thought Uncle Rufus had normalized some of the audio but apparently not? If anyone finds that it's definitely a problem let one of us know. It's probably nothing a little bit of processing can't fix.

Yeah some times normalizing audio kinda does the opposite of what you intend....the one thing I have noticed on the rifftrax's so far is that they need to be mixed with a little more bass.

For example I know that there natural speaking voices aren't similar to Barry White but the ear needs to differentiate the rifftrax from the movie and honestly the easiest and most appealing way to do that is too tweak the bass levels on the recordings.

Everything they say doesn't need to be BOOMING but I guarantee that a bass boost will make the rifftrax flow better with audio from the movie.

Right, that's more of a source issue. Obviously if the mic doesn't pick the bass frequencies up, for whatever reason, it's a lot more difficult to go back in afterward and add those frequencies - and still have it sound natural.

I'll mention it to the guys in the video post room and see if there is anything we can do, if the levels are that off. We did listen to it on a decent sound system, and while Kevin sounded a little thinner, he didn't seem too far off. Let me know what you guys think.

I don't want to turn this into a really dorky discussion on audio but I will say this. I am not sure what mic's you guys use but obviously a good mic makes all the difference, but if you need to work with what you got there are some simple solutions to making a bad mic sound good.

Such as a simple wind screen on the mic, I mean you probably have one on them but either way that will help eliminate any pops that may happen with a mic....

I mean I don't think running the sound through pro-tools etc. and giving it a slight bass boost would make them sound unnatural at all.....really the best way to get what you want is to experiment...

So yeah I don't think you need a dorky radio guy to bother you with this stuff any more tho.  :D

Oh and if you guys use a mixing board you should be able to tweak the mic to pick up some extra bass....

I'm having serious issues syncing the rifftrax and the DVD. It's like for every second in the movie, the rifftrax is running a quarter second behind.

Could I have gotten the wrong version of the rifftrax (PAL instead of NTSC)? Cause I'm pretty sure I got the right one.

Well you can redownload the PAL one....but I dunno?

did you try restarting the DVD? sounds like a funny fix but for I had such a problem with Dr. Morou and for some reason turning the DVD player completely off then back on fixed it.

NTSC<->PAL isn't quite that extreme, you lose about 1 sec per 20 seconds.

TP, I used a half decent set of earphones when I was mixing and pre-viewing. It was quite apparent with those earphones. It may not be quite as bad with normal speakers, but I haven't tested that yet.

Just from my experience with digital audio, Uncle Rufus will probably not be able to do too much with it. However, at least you will know for the future and maybe set the mics up differently...as it sounds like Kevin is sitting further away from the mic then Mike or Bill.

Thanks for looking into this...
