Know what I hate?

Dr.Impossible

Stories where someone wakes up and the whole world is different, including everyone's perception of the protagonist. Like its modern times when they go to sleep and when they wake up they're a future space lawyer and everyone's like "Hey, why aren't beaming to work yet? You have to be at space court in an 15 minutes to argue the big case" and the protagonist is like "what case?" and they're like "hahaha come on" and the protagonist is like "no really" and they're like "You're acting funny, do you have a space fever?" and they have to go try to be a lawyer even though they're really a pirate back in olden times. I especially hate that awkward part where they deal with the fact that they don't know what's going on and everyone's like "Why are you fucking up you stupid ass."

Things like this that I hate:
Le Moustache
13 Going On 30 (I assume)

But mostly the big culprit is every star trek show ever. They did one where Picard was a blue shirt instead of a captain on the Enterprize and he was like "WTF" and they did one where Worf was bouncing around to different realities and he was like "WTF I don't know how this command console works and we're fighting romulans oh noes" and they did one where Riker's memory was messed up (ostensibly) and he had a kid and he was like "WTF oh noes but I'm a swinging bachelor."

I hate that shit. Can anyone think of more examples of this?

I have yet to see anything like that.

It's not... SUPER common, but if you were to watch a lot of star trek you'd see it eventually.

I remember something similar:
I'm not sure if you are an X-Files fan, but they did a 2-part episode back in season 6 (Dreamland I/II).

While being detained near the famed "Dreamland" Area 51, a strange craft flies overhead and Mulder swaps bodies with an Area 51 'Man-in-Black'. While the other agent has fun in Mulder's body, Mulder himself finds it difficult to fit into someone else's life, especially a shadowy one. Mulder contacts Scully about the body-swap and tries to get her the Flight Data Recorder from the UFO test flight but his alter ego uses Mulder's FBI persona to have him arrested.

While there were parts of the episodes that I liked. I got annoyed with it and certainly didn't think it deserved to go on for 2 episodes.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing. It's a very made-for-tv plot device, I think that's why I hate it.

Variety of Cells

Or the episode of Star Trek where they painted a white line down the middle of the Enterprise.  One half Kirk's and the other half Sulu's.  Or am I thinking of something else....

Cibernético II

Dr.Impossible I think I will hire you to write the script to my next TV pilot.

HAH! birlliant stuff
I really do like pie.

Futurama, Evil Dead 3, Big, Vice Versa (and its remake), Freaky Friday (both parts), 18 Again!, Idiocracy, The Matrix, 13 Going on 30, It's a Boy/Girl Thing, Wish upon a Star, The Hot Chick, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (all 3 of them), Every single episode of Quantum Leap...   ;D

Some of those are examples of the general kind of story I'm talking about, but some also lack the specific situation I hate where the person goes to their job (or whatever) and don't know how to do it.

The BEST example is Quantum Leap, that stuff happens in every single episode, like you say. But you know what's weird? I LOVE Quantum Leap! I think it's because they usually get that stuff out of the way in the first 5 minutes with ziggy's magic exposition machine.

I also think it's funny that you refer to  Army of Darkness as Evil Dead 3.  ;D

You forgot Freaky Friday (one of the first movies I ever truly hated with a passion).

Edit: And Hook, the first movie I ever riffed on.  (That movie is filled with opportunities for unintentional hilarity).

Another Edit: And Family Man (the one where Nicolas Cage is a single businessman and wakes up married with children).  Holy crap, I never realized how ubiquitous this inane theme was.

Yet another Edit: Oh, wait.  You DIDN'T forget Freaky Friday.  Sorry - I never learned to read. :'(
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Would "Flight of the Navigator" fall under this category?
Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

No, because the main character who travels through time is supposed to be old, but when he returns from his 8 year trip, he hasn't aged. His whole family expects to see him older, but when he returns, he's the same age, which is very puzzling to everyone. Plus, he doesn't have some sort of job he forgets knowing how to do.

Too many of these examples just involve the character being changed or transported to another place.  Dr.Impossible is referring more to plots where the character is the same, but the world or circumstances around him have changed suddenly and everyone expects him to already be attuned to them.

Franz Kafka was such a hack.
