If you get one from me (PLLaDeDa), then it is I.  I'm add people though XBoxLive.com since I'm too lazy to type the names in using a gamepad.

yeah I added you on there.  good shit.  Anyone play the LOTR demo yet?  Pretty fun.

Saucy, you started this thread, how about collating everyone's tag and putting it at the start of the thread so people don't have to scroll through everything? :)

MSTJedi77 . . . but since I don't really play games online (I kinda suck) and only use Live to download content and updates, it's just FYI.

Passing the word, I red ringed this morning.  It's only the second time in two years so I guess I got lucky compare to other people.

I just hope that if mine goes, it's still under warranty. If I have to pay for repair, I'm gonna be really cheesed.

I had mine for two years before I got hit with it.  I bought Rock Band 2 and it needed to update itself.  Upon restarting, boom, red ringed.  Luckily it was still under warranty at Best Buy so I got a new system, bigger hard drive (had to transfer my game data but it was easy) and two free games.  Also, I was given $90 in store credit for some reason and used 40 of it to place the warranty on the new system and bought a few DVD's with the remaining balance.

Hope it all works out for you though.

This last breakage  cost me £60.   :(

If it does go after the warranty's up, I'm gonna take it up to the local game shop that does repairs and see what kind of mods they can do on the thing. Even making the beast a little quieter would be nice.

mine red ringed for a second time, but this time, I said screw xbox and fixed it myself.
First I did the xclamp mod, which fixed the ring of death, but then I went completely nuts and ended up water cooling the thing, which thus far is working great. I drilled holes through the gpu and cpu heat sinks, inserted brass piping and used thermal grease to help conduct the heat, the water then runs through an automotive transmission cooler that I bought(which has a cooling far as well), then runs into a reservoir where it's pickup up by a fountain pump and cycles back through.

I figure Microsoft will never really fix the problem, so it was either trade my xbox in once every 6 months or fix the problem myself. For instance yesterday I played forza 2 for 7 straight hours and my water temperature never went over 75 degrees. no...no... I didn't go overboard :speechless:

Yeah 3 times I've had my 360 laser lens go bad on me where I get the white screen message "To play this disc please put it in an Xbox 360 console" in about 12 languages.  The games would eventually start if I opened and closed it enough times... However that sometimes took 3 minutes sometimes 30 minutes to where I didnt even feel like playing a game by the time it actually started to spin.  :grr:
all of them happened shortly after the original 1 year warranty expired ... go figure  ::)
So the 3rd time it happened instead of biting the bullet and buying a new console like I had the other times, I decided to start sending them in @ $104.00 a pop  :'( to be repaired. Unfortunately instead of repairing mine, they sent me ones already repaired, which didnt make to happy but I did get an additional year warranty on them... so I guess it could be worse.
I play the hell out of my 360's though and luckily never had the red ring of death on any of them...   Knock Wood
Hopefully with the new feature of being able to store games to the hard drive and play them off that I won't run into that issue anymore

Well see there's more than one problem with the 360's hardware, hell more than I can think of right now, but....
Overheating, due to insufficient cooling
substandard thermal paste being used on the heat sinks
cheap solder
xclamps
ridiculous heat output of the gpu and cpu.
disc drive problems of various types.
Microsoft has tried to address all of these problems, but it's like trying to make a 700hp Ford Festiva perform well. That being, too much power in such a small space, while cutting corners to save money and being screwed by component manufacturers, like Toshiba, that produced disc drives, that liked to eat discs more than play them. When I sent in my original 360, I received a refurbished one, which actually had only one mod from my original, which was a small added heat sink to the GPU. I didn't have a disc problem, mine had the bad solder and paste problem. The one they sent me also had this same problem.

Supposedly the new elite 360's have had all these problems fixed, but only time will tell

I don't know I read in last month's Game Informer on page 37 talking about  Top 10 Disappointments of 2008 ... #1 was Xbox 360 Still Seeing Red: it goes on talking about how even "the vaunted Xbox 360 Elites are still Crapping out at an unacceptable rate"

lol
yeah I believe all our calls go to India. To say that we shouldn't be playing them for hours on end is utter bs, simply put, the system is only going to get so hot. If I play for lets say 4 hours and then play for 24 hours straight, it shouldn't matter, if it did, then they'd most likely burst into flames after a few days left on.

Finally took some pics. does your refurbished 360's come with a small zen waterfall and an actual intercooler?  ;D

edit; realized the one pic was too small
