Yes, AC3 is the audio format that is used on DVD's (well one of them...but lets just say its the only one for now).

Here are my instructions for setting up DVD Decrypter to get the M2V (video) and AC3 (audio) file:

Go to Tools, Settings, IFO Tab...make sure "Enable Stream Processing" is checked and make sure "File Splitting" is set to None.
Now pop in your DVD and make sure you have it set for IFO Mode...DVD Decrypter will auto select the main title as you will see on the Input Tab. Click on the Stream Processing Tab. Basically you uncheck everything except for the top 2, which will be the Video and the next one down is your main AC3 audio file.
Highlight the Video and check off "Demux", then highlight the Audio and check off "Demux". Press the 'Decrypt' button and when its done, you will have your M2V and AC3 file on your HDD.
The biggest mistake here is forgetting to highlight Video and AC3 seperately and checking off "Demux"; you have to do it for each one!

I finally authored my first one, Top Gun. After messing with Nero 7 and all its glorious sub-programs (like Nero Soundtrax, which is cool, but again had an issue) I did it with all the programs listed in Secret Agent Super Dragon's guide and it worked great.

That Nero Soundtrax was gonna be great, but the weirdest thing happened... the AC3 file, when imported, would go silent at the 92:26 mark, even though it knew the track was 109 minutes long. Even after converting to WAV, it did the same thing. I fought that battle for an hour or so before saying "screw it" (or words to that effect) and just went ahead and did it using one of the many "proper" methods. It turned out great... the riff volume is a little loud in the quiet movie parts, but holds up well in the loud scenes. I'm happy enough for now, at least I can get it done...

Cool. Glad it worked for you. Maybe for your next rifftrax, you can try messing with the audio levels in Audacity. It only takes a couple extra minutes to scroll through and amplify the riff during the loud parts, or reduce the sound during the quiet parts. Then it becomes pretty much perfect.

Wow, thank you very much. I've been going through a few of the threads in the Tech support forum, but that is exactly where I went wrong! Ok from here I should be doing a lot better. Thanks again!

Well, after countless attempts I've finally gotten a near perfect re-authored xmen dvd. The goldwave voiceover plugin is teh awesome. And so is Gammer's guide.

I just picked up a copy of Goldwave and I think I'll give it a try for my next attempt. Just to see...

I think GoldWave is harder initially, when compared to Audacity.

However, it is has allot more options and is "more powerful" in the end. So once you grasp how to use it, you'll be pleased.
Also, the Voice Over plug in makes it the 'cats ass', as far as I'm concerned.

I use Gammer's guide, but I make AVIs...  Then I stream them to my XBOX running XBMC... NICE!

Nice!
My buddy plays all his AVI's through his XBOX too. He also has a DVD player that plays some AVI's.
He said that the XBOX looks better then his DVD player. He thinks the XBOX has some kind of filter on it to clean up the noise??

I have no idea... :P

BathTub

yeah I do all the editing in audacity and pretty much just use GW for the final mix.
