New Joel is the taste for this generation.  Catch the wave!  Actually, I really do prefer Crystal Joel.  You've never seen Joel like that!
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

I would have thought they would do "Santa Claus" since most of them hadn't riffed that one. Or... two of them hadn't.

I figure CT didn't want to touch that one since it would spark the old Joel vs. Mike rivalry. Since Joel was the one to tackle SCCTM originally, it's fine if he decides to try it again. If he does a movie that Mike riffed on, everyone will start making comparisons that neither Joel or Mike want . . . or care about.

My guess is that it was more likely to do with copyrigt issues. The martians film is public domain and has already been released by Rhino, so it's fair game. Not so sure if that's the case with the Santa Claus film.

I hate that artificial cherry taste though, Wild Cherry Mike has natural flavors.

I hate the guy who does the new voice of Joel.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

Plus, the Joel puppeteer is terrible now.

Finally got my copy of this and watched it before work.  Great stuff overall, it kind of struck me as the opposite pattern of the MST ep.  I think the beginning of the MST version was strong but I often fall asleep or lose interest before the end.  The CT version starts a little slow but gets funnier and funnier as it goes.  Glad I picked it up.

Actually, according to its "Daddy-O's Drive-In Dirt" MST3KInfo page at http://www.mst3kinfo.com/daddyo/di_521.html:

"The movie is in public domain, so it's played frequently in its original Spanish during the holiday season. As a result (as strange as it may seem) it has become, for many Spanish-speaking TV viewers world wide, a holiday tradition as cherished as viewing It's A Wonderful Life and other holiday classics is for English-speaking Americans."

I loved it!  It was especially interesting to see the scenes that weren't in the MST version, like the part where Santa finds out they're not gonna take him back to Earth, and the extended "calling on the Old Guy" scene.
