Service Disconnected... Update Now

I have the Rifftrax player installed on my desktop and laptop and had very few problems with each until now.  I can't seem to get the player to open on my desktop computer anymore and have no clue why.  Nothing has changed on my system since the last time I used the player.

When I open the player I get a popup after the rifftrax logo that says, Update Services, Service Disconnected...., Update Now.

Clicking update now brings up the updater.exe which tells me I have the most recent version.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the player 3 times now, making sure there was no trace of the previous install before reinstalling.

As I said above, worked great and then just stopped with no system changes on my end.
Have reinstalled 3 times with no change in performance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so maybe it's a server issue, although I didn't think a server issue would stop the player from working.  But at least I know it's not just me now.

I'm unable to reproduce this... player works fine on my XP desktop. Is this still an issue?

It appears to not be anymore.  But to use it earlier I had to use the "turn off my internet" work around to get it to work.  Now it seems to work fine.

Cool... good to know.  Not sure what happened there but let us know if this comes up again.

It's coming up again.

Does this have something to do with the first Friday of the month?  Is it on some kind of cycle?  ???

Yep, I'm getting the same error right now as we speak.

Hey -- there's an easy fix.  Just get yourself un-connected to the internet.  I'm too lazy to climb behind the computer and unplug the ethernet cable, so I just find the network connection in control panel and click "disabled".  Then it works.  Try it. (I reconnected to the internet so I could post this, so i hope it works :) )

SkulleryMaid

Just wanted to say I was having the same problem.  I disconnected my ethernet connection and it works fine.  Thanks for the tip!

Hey guys,

Sorry about this. We're on it.

Thanks for posting.

I didn't want to start a new topic since I saw this one, but I just started having this problem tonight.

Same issue. The workaround is to disable your internet connection while starting up Rifftrax. You can re-enable your Internet once it's up, but the Service to check for a new version seems to be broken.

Yeah I'm not sure why it's doing this, I will notify the Person In Charge and see if he can fix it.
