I know there are a few peeps on this board or have read this (and some of you guys love it too!)

That being said, I am about to start reading for class, so I decided to makea  thread for it. This is my first time reading it, and I must say I am a little excited.

I will be back later with comments.

I think I'm alone in the latter category.

It's wonderful.  Just let the language, which can be a bit tiresome, go and absorb the meaning.  You'll love it too.

i feel bad for spelling ti wrong. Tristram.

Can someone relate the book to Heart of Darkness. Better. Worse. Same?

Tripe

Er not very well. I like both of them but they are really all that similar except they're books written in English.

Heart of Darkness is harder to read. It took me four pages to make this comparison.  (that's a burn on heart of darkness)

Well, the Tristram Shandy movie was pretty good.  Especially if you like Steve Coogan.

I remember reading about some famous 18th century German critic who said, "I would gladly give 10 years of my life to extend Sterne's by one," or something.  True or not, that's the kind of obsessive devotion Tristram Shandy engenders.

To me, Sterne is the only person who can be mentioned in the same breath as Shakespeare in a "greatest user of English" debate, if there ever is such a thing.

Towel, please.
