What's Wrong With "Add to Cart" Links?

After way too much lurking, I finally was ready to buy six Rifftrax -- but the website didn't want me buying three of them.

On the Catalog page, the "Add to Cart" button for every Rifftrax released previous to "Fellowship of the Ring" linked not to e-junkie, but straight back to the Catalog page.  I followed "More Info" links for them, but the "Cart" buttons there just linked me back to those same pages.  Is my browser playing tricks on me, or are other people having this problem?

I did manage to buy the three newer ones I had in mind (after one ordering hiccup that cost me a buck), but I still have some money I want to give you.  Can you nice people help me with that?  ;)

Every Rifftrax previous to Lord Of The Rings brings up a Pop-Up Window, with the option to buy the U.S.A.-North American/NTSC version or the UK-Austrailian/PAL version.

It's probably just a pop-up blocker in place on your browser that is preventing it from popping up.

I exempted rifftrax.com from the pop-up blocker, Kodiak, but I get the same results.  Not a bad guess:  just didn't work.

Let me add a little evidence to the mystery.  The buttons for listening to free samples also have the 'back to the same page' links I've been complaining about.  The odd part is, those links worked for me once before, from the "More Sample Rifftrax" page, but not only don't they work from the individual Trax's pages, but the main-page links to free samples (the "Star Trek V" one and the "More Samples" button) now also have those blasted 'back to the same page' links.

This is getting downright weird.  Especially if nobody else is noticing these problems.

E-junkie recently changed the way their cart works, without telling us. We recently updated our shopping cart button code to match.

However I have just tested it, and all seems to work correctly (even from the catalogue page). keep in mind there IS a popup asking you to choose your NTSC versus PAL version of the track.

My only guess is the same as Kodiak's - it seems like your computer is blocking popups. What browser are you using? Are you using any toolbars, such as Google or Yahoo, which have built-in popup blocking? In my experience people who use popup blockers in addition to the ones inherent in the browser, such as firefox, tend to have issues aplenty when it comes to seeing popups they would actually LIKE to view.

Most have a way of defeating them, however - usually this involves holding a key such as the Ctrl key on your keyboard, and then clicking the link that initiates the popup. Try this and let me know if it helps.

If it doesn't we'll see if there's another method to get around this issue.

Thanks for taking the time, TorgosPizza, but nothing seems to work yet.

I've got Norton Internet Security, and it does have a toolbar on my browser (Internet Explorer, v6).  I unchecked the "Block popups on this site" line on the toolbar, and nothing changed.  I worked from the main Norton program, turning off pop-up blockers altogether, even shutting down the firewall temporarily.  No joy.  Control-clicking, and alt-clicking, did not work either.  I put rifftrax.com on the Explorer browser's list of pop-up-allowed sites (which now numbers one), and that didn't resolve it, either.

When I say the link from these buttons is to the same site, I mean that when I roll over with the mouse, it comes up as the exact same URL (except for an added '#').  The "Add to Cart" buttons from "Fellowship" on up show the e-junkie URLs when I roll over.

I'd love to believe I'm doing something stupid and easily remedied here, but I don't see what it is.  There's no big rush in resolving this -- the Rifftrax I bought will hold me for a while -- but I'd rather not get beaten by an inanimate object. (Insert "Rocky Balboa" joke here, even though I liked the movie.)

Do you have JavaScript disabled? I believe some of the links are JS-initiated popups. This is something I'll be changing this week as well, at least I will test it out tomorrow morning around 11am pacific time. I'll let you know when it's changed so you can try it again. But just FYI that's why you only see a blank anchor tag when you mouseover the button

One thing I'd like to see - if it's an IE6 issue or not. Perhaps you have security settings set to block script such as the popups from running. To check, go  to Tools > Internet Settings > Security tab, and add rifftrax.com to your trusted sites. You might also add www.rifftrax.com as well as rifftrax.com.

Secondly, try turning the popup blocker off altogether, by clicking Tools > Popup Blocker and choosing "Turn off.."

If that still doesn't work, try using Firefox - www.getfirefox.com. And if THAT still doesn't work, then it is most likely a third party software problem, and not your fault. (Phew!)

Give these a try and let me know how you make out. Thanks!

Made Rifftrax a trusted site; turned off the popup blocker.  Zip and zilch.  I don't even think I have JavaScript to disable it, so I don't think that's the problem either.

I'm going to start setting up Firefox now, and see what happens.  Vegas bookmakers are setting some pretty long odds ...

Okay, Firefox works.  Not the most elegant solution to have a separate Web browser just for ordering Rifftrax, but at this point, I'll take it.

Thanks, TorgosPizza.  I'll go pester someone else now.  ;)

Glad that took care of it. But there are still some issues we are working on. Eventually we'll have the catalogue system consolidated to make it easier for everyone buying - and hopefully we'll avoid further issues. Fingers are crossed!

Using Firefox, clicking on the "Add to Cart" button for several different movies gave me the message "You have nothing in your cart."

I tried the same button twice in a row, and it was added to the cart. It's no big deal, but I thought you'd like to know about it.

What version of FF are you using? I use FF, IE and Opera here for testing and haven't had a problem in either one. I have the latest versions of all three, plus some older versions on other computers here in the office. Are you running any extensions or have any options selected that might prevent a form submit button, or a javascript button from activating correctly?

Was this on the CATALOG (list of all movies) page, on a certain Category (Action / Sci-Fi, or browse by release date, etc.)  or was this on the Product DETAIL page (where the movie poster and long description is)?

What page does the error occur on? The list of products, or on the product detail?

By the way, I use the same version of Firefox on my production machine, so I can't be sure what the problem is, unless it's browser-specific (such as an Extension that is mucking things up). Please provide me with some details and I'll look into it.

Different problem here.  I clicked on "add to cart" went to Paypal page which asked for my email and password.   Suddenly, the same ones which worked 21 previous times for Rifftrax aren't recognized.
   Wha's up?
