Why do you INSIST on destroying my childhood?

Hello gang. We've all grown up with our favorite movies as children. When I was a kid I loved "The Sandlot," it was a brilliant story and inspired me (for a short period) to try out for little league - until I realized that I suck at sports. Highly quotable and one of the few movies I was allowed to watch with swearwords. I still love to watch it even to this day, as it makes me feel like a kid again.

But just recently I was exposed to this monstrosity:

Sometimes I really hate the production companies that insist on making these sequels to try and make money off of the original formula. It's something that affects all of us, so I thought it would be interesting to talk about. What childhood film do you wish had never been touched (or you wish never will be...)?
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

I'm sorry I have to do this, don't look if you want to keep your sanity.

Killing me won't bring back your Goddamned honey!

I've managed to avoid that one. The Sandlot 2 happened while at a neighbor's house. Their seven year old is too cute and I couldn't resist her. Agh!

My experience has been a little different.

I grew up with three channels and PBS.  (Back then PBS didn't count, because PBS affiliates were required by law to show only the McNeil/Lehrer News Report.  It's true.)

You would get into the habit of watching shows just because they were "so the only girl in town," so to speak.  The best example was The Brady Bunch.  I wasted hours of my life because this was the show on between the Warner Brothers' cartoons and Star Trek in the afternoon.  (I think it ran against Gilligan's Island and the early edition of the news here.)  I never liked the show, but I think I can recite the entire "Joe Namath" episode to this very day.

When the Brady Bunch movies came out, my reaction wasn't "Aargh, they're ruining my show!"  It was more like, "Man, I forgot how stupid and creepy that thing really was."

Actually, I just figured it out.  George Lucas completely robbed me of my childhood a few years ago.  I think I'm still numb.

I was robbed of my childhood the moment I realized that in every Disney movie, at least one bloke dies.

The middle kid on the Sandlot 2 cover looks like Heath Ledger.

Somehow Neverending Story 2 didn't ruin my childhood for me. Neverending Story 3, on the other hand, took it out back and shot it mercilessly.

That's cause Neverending Story 2 had Jonathon Brandis in it! He was the only reason I ever bought Tiger Beat.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Neverending Story 2 had The Flash in it, and the kid from one episode of the Flash. It was also partially based on the second half of the book, not that you'd know it by the marketing or anything. I remember seeing a preview of the making of Neverending Story 3, seemingly YEARS before it was released. And then Jack Black, some kid, and a bunch of un-book-related characters raped my childhood repeatedly, killed it, and then raped it some more. It's possibly worse than the worst movie you've ever seen that you thought there couldn't be a worse movie than. Thanks for the reminder.

I think I'd rather be raped AFTER I'm dead though.

OMG! That's where I'd seen that guy before! I so didn't peg him as being The Flash's actor. Suddenly, the movie seems more hilarious. I actually did read the book of Neverending Story. It was lovely. Apparently there's a movie of Momo, but it's in German and hasn't been translated. T__T

Totally agree about Neverending Story 3. Sorry to bring up the trauma again. Hmmm..PTMS? Post Traumatic Movie Syndrome?
