Disembaudio Riffs

The Last few Rifftrax have had no interaction in the Credits at the end. So I say in the credits is where Disembaudio should shine. Have him give some facts about the flick or just berate Mike and whatever guest is there.

I think the issue is that the disembaudio rants in Fifth Element are too jarring. Back in the MST3K days there would often be tangents and they'd be funny but they usually held some thread of relevance to the movie ('Cept during credits, which were fair game.) I want Disembaudio to play along, but I want him to direct his riffs movieward. :^)

I'm of the less is more opinion...  since his voice is higher pitched, Disembaudio can sometimes be jarring.

I like his syncing policy, but am in the middle about his riffing policy.

I have to say, I agree with the initial statement, disembaudio was funny when riffing but when the random tangents occured it was very distracting.  The fifth element riff was good but no where near as good as star trek V.  It's just better when someone else is there.

I feel a little bit like maybe the guy who plays Disembaudio is just some guy, probably he works at Legend films, maybe even pretty high up in the company, and he saw the chance to riff with THE Mike Nelson, and so he did what most of us would do: he took the opportunity.  He's like "Hey Mike, how about we put my character in the thing a little more, like maybe get off on a tangent about car theives and such and we'll be riffing together, you and me?"  The only problem is, the guy was unwilling to admit to himself that he's not funny in whatever way it takes to pull that stuff off.  He had the chance to riff on a movie with Mike Nelson, and he took it (as any of us would have), but (also like us, let's face it) he failed to realize that the guys from Best Brains are evidently the only people in the world who can riff on a movie and make it funny.

So yeah, he's not funny, but cut the guy some slack - he did what any of us would have done.  Hopefully he's got it out of his system by now, is all I'm saying.

I'm all for some interaction between Big D and Mike, but it would really help if they were on the same volume. For example, in Fifth Element, D was way, way louder than Mike. I wanted to enjoy the jokes, because there's some really funny stuff in there, but hearing D yell is like hearing nine-year-olds have a calm, rational debate.

While on cocaine.

Let that robotic, bodiless guy have his fun, but maybe we could pull his voice back a bit? Either tone him down or make him less "computerified"?

The only time I didn't like the actual material (as opposed to the sound of it) was when they gabbed over the opera song. The kickass song and the riff/rant were in competition with one another, I couldn't concentrate on either, and the whole thing was just a mess.

Agreed. And there was some real riff-fodder in that scene too.

For the record, I like Disembaudio. I might just start up the first official Disembaudio fan club. :^) I just don't want the material to garble up the feature. We have to follow the movie to get the jokes. Mike's seen it 10 times by then, but we haven't. :^)

Maybe we should have elections for the president of the official "DisembAudio's Squadio?"

Maybe it was because I've seen the 5th Element so much, but the DisembAudio tangents felt to me a bit like the host segments in the ol' MST3K, and they were placed in sections of the movie where everything was visual, but it's been a while since I saw it.

I enjoyed the participation, and missed it when I watched Plan 9, especially with the sections of dead space.  I realize that the Plan 9 commentary came before Rifftrax, but still.  DA rulz!

DisembAudio told me to tell you congratulations - you're no longer on... "The List...."
So rest assured ;)

I'm all in favor of Disembaudio chiming in.  Please don't take the following the wrong way.  I love the way Mike riffs, but when it's just him doing it, well, he's just some guy talking to himself.  Funny, funny talk, to be sure.  But I think for the concept to work, there ought to be at least two riffers in on the action.  That way, they are talking to one another, which somehow makes the whole thing seem so much more right.  The chemistry behind the concept just works so much better.

Mike by himself = kinda weird.  Mike with robots/Disembodio = Kinda weird.  But in a good way.

The Disembaudio riff in Cocktail was very unexpected.

The "cover your eyes" stuff in Road House was on the verge of too much.

I like DisembAudio...

Me too.  Someone has got to add something to break up the single riffer commentary.  Don't get me wrong, Mike is great, but he's better when he isn't the only one riffing the movie.  I liked Disembaudios' tangents and rants with Mike having to turn him off and bring back the riffing to focus.  I say, let's have more Disembaudio!

My take:

I really like it when Mike and Disembaudio get into it,

however, I agree that it shouldn't get in the way of some good riffing. Otherwise, we'll know there was no material for that particular section!
