I dunno where you're shopping, but I can't find any copies for less than eight bucks. =/

I tried Target, but apparently they only sell dollar-bin DVDs around christmas. Going to check again online, but my hopes are waning. I just really hope I don't have to go to wallmart. =x

I went to a dollar tree, but they only had flash gordon serials, a few westerns and romances, and lots of short-lived public domain quasi-nonfiction tv series. Nothing I could really count as a "monster/halloweeny" movie. =/ (flash gordon is too actiony and monster-less) Also went to "a dollar or two" but they had no DVDs at all. I tried checking the Dollar Tree website, but it is curiously bare of anything approaching a product listing or a way to order online. =/

I've found some good deals on Amazon.com. There's also some wholesale DVDs of the schlock horror vareity here http://www.dollardays.com/sitesearch.aspx?pg=1&newp=1 but I'm a little hesitatn as I can't tell what the individual contents are, or if the listed price is by the individual units or the whole crate/box.

Matters are further complicated by the fact that I don't really know how many trick-or-treaters are going to show up this year, and I'd had to spend twenty bucks only to get stuck with twelve copies of "Warning from Space" and "House on Haunted Hill". =/

I'm starting to think you should go back to candy.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree. As a parent, I wouldn't let my kids watch something someone was handing out for Halloween. How do I know there's not porn in the middle of it (as PSL Owner has already poined out)? I would have to watch it first, and for as long as it takes me to get around to watching a movie that I actually want to see the thing would gather dust on the shelf and eventually get thrown out.

I applaud the idea, though.

Well, I think PSL Owner was meaning if Fuzzy downloaded something Public Domain and burned copies of it.....

As a parent, would you really worry about a DVD that was shrink-wrapped?

wurwolf

Yup, I would. Maybe because it has the stigma of someone giving something out for Halloween, but I would definitely not let my kids watch it before I did. Even if it was shrinkwrapped and still had the price tag on it.

Doctor Who?

When I was a kid my parents watched every movie before letting me watch it.  The up side to that was they never once complained about me and my brother seeming something that they didn't want us to see.

If parents today would just take the time to be parents there wouldn't be nearly as many problems in the world IMO.

Tripe

Wow mine didn't.

BTW 91/2 Weeks, best 11th birthday present evah! ;)

Actually, I think I'm a pretty permissive parent. I don't monitor every little thing my kids do. Now that they're 14 and 15 I like to let them make a lot of decisions for themselves, especially when I see that they're smart girls with good heads on their shoulders. But when they were little? Hells yeah, I was on top of everything, especially what they watched on tv or in the movies.

Don't forget to check them for razor blades as well. =o

Yeah, but you need a razor blade to open anything that's shrink-wrapped now days...

Fuzzy Necromancer

My latest plan has been foiled. =/

I tried to buy House on Haunted Hill in bulk from some amazon.com. Alas, even if I buy several copies of the same exact product, from the same seller, I still have to pay shippage and handling on each individual unit.

Sooo, I've found some things, and I'd be eager if you guys (especially parents in the forum =o ) could give me your impression of the "rating" of each item as far as child-friendlyness

I've developed a specialized rating system

P-Film is suitable for cute little tykes dressed up as pumkins who say "Twik or teet!" or a similar adorably bastardized variation on "trick or treat'.

S-Film is suitable for kids who's costumes involve skulls, weapons, and definate gender variation, and/or are out alone.

C-Film is suitable for mildly creepy slouching teenagers who look as if they;'re going to vandalize your entire neighborhood in an act of retaliation if you don't give them free candy. Film is also suitable for giggling 13-16 year old groups of females who judging by their socialization are siamese triplets.

Films Include:

King of the Zombies
Dead Men Walk (1943)
Horror of Dracula (1957)
King of the Zombies (1941)
Jesse James meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1965)
The Monster Maker (1944, Director Sam Newfield)
The Big Cat (1933)
Vampire Bat (1932)
Devil Bat (1941)

I eagerly await feedback. =o
