They should riff Psycho. You heard me, and no, I don't mean that piece o' crap remake from Gus Van Sant, I mean the real Psycho. It's a classic movie, it's good, but it could be great fun to see riffed. Marianne trying desperately to seem like she's not up to something, geeky Norman, Mother, the era, the shrink at the end there to wrap everything up... it's all ready to be riffed! Does anyone agree? Probably not.

I agree. Good movies are tough to riff, but with so much time having passed just the cultural differances are enough to make a great film like this funny as hell.

How is it a piece of crap?  it's almost exactly the same.

I agree though, the more sacred cows slaughtered the better.

The remake wasn't so much a piece of crap as it was pointless.  If you're going to try and duplicate almost everything why not just point your camera at the original movie with a caption that says "just watch this"

I never thought of this film. Maybe I need to watch some more riffs.

It's a piece of crap because it's so utterly pointless, it's garish and tacky, it isn't exactly the same (two examples: moronically sticking an image from a NIN video into a death scene along with a sheep, having dialogue such as "I'll lick the stamps" spoken in a completely different way) and it lacks impact, and the very fact that it exists just bugs me.

I am actually working on this one.  I had wanted to do my own riff to this for quite some time, and iriffs sorta got me inspired to actually do it.   ;D

Although, I personally love this movie and don't think it's crap at all.  I don't think it should be rated R still though.

Psycho was good, but I liked Rear Window and Vertigo better.  Just thought I'd get that out there.

The same way that Olivier's and that German production of  Hamlet that was MSTied was the same?

Four months ago I went to a midnight theatrical screening of Psycho. A friend of mine went with me who, surprisingly, hadn't seen the movie before. We really had a good time watching it on the big screen, but I almost wish he'd seen it before on TV. The majority of the audience had obviously seen the film several times before and kept laughing at certain points in the film, like when Norman is talking to Marianne before the infamous shower scene. It didn't seem to bother him too much, but he kept giving me odd glances like "What the hell are they laughing about?" Plus there were other scenes that made people laugh for the reasons Smokey mentioned as well. We particularly enjoyed the psychiatrist at the end of the film. ("But.... he was also THE MOTHER!") Unfortunately the shower scene has been parodied so many times, and people are so used to seeing gory torture porn, I'm sure a lot of the impact it had is lost on today's audiences.  :-\

I really like the film, but if they were laughing that much when it was just the movie playing, I think it would make for a good Rifftrax.  Mike keeps talking about how he wants to do an iconic "good" movie like Godfather, but I think this might present better riff opportunities. Plus, although a lot of Hitchcock fans might be up in arms about the selection, it will probably please a lot of people that want them to have a wider selection of old films in the catalog.

TheUnabeefer

I am mostly done with my rough first draft of the script.  If anyone want to submit some lines, I'm all up for shoving them in and giving credit, although for a warning, I have always planned on putting this up for free.... so there may not be any financial gain involved.

Either way, I've found this incredibly easy to write for.

Also, I am a huge Hitchcock fan, and a MASSIVE Psycho fan... so anyone who gets upset about this can bite me!   ;D

Interestingly, I went to see Rear Window when it had a theatrical re-release a few years back, and the audience was incredibly into it. I've never heard such a deathly hush in a theater as when . You truly could have heard the proverbial pin drop. I don't know if it's because people don't know Rear Window as well as Psycho, or just a case of different audiences on different nights, or what. I'd seen the film several times already, but I got pretty caught up in the big-screen experience myself.

So you're riffing the original? Cool. Hope to see it soon. I can't think of any lines off the top of my head, but I would have "Mother" arguing with Norman alot. Like a sidekick popping up in alot of scenes with some cranky comment.

You know, I actually think this one MIGHT work if done correctly. As long as they stay away from slamming the film.
