I'm not sure that my opinion is extreme, I think both films are bad but from the amount of times the term "worst movie ever made" is used on here I think just calling something shite is less extreme than that.  I would struggle to think of a film I like less than Forrest Gump however.

Tripe

The thing is the book Forrest Gump is based on has much the same message:

Forrest Gump is insulting, it shows an inane version of "the American dream" where a complete moron can fall ass-backwards through life succeeding because he just accepts what happens to him without questioning it.  The soundtrack is a poor replacement for actually having to establish themes or drama.

But with satirical intent, somehow that went missing in the film making process and we ended up with:

As someone who has read both Forrest Gump and Gump & Co., as much as I didn't like the film, it could have been SO MUCH WORSE.  In the book, instead of running across America, he ends up in space.

Gump & Co. is even worse, instead of all good things happening by accident, his life turns to shit.......Remeber the Pig shit silo in the Simpsons movie, he explodes a town that is powered by pig shit methane, he forgets to vent it and it blows up the town.

Didn't the author hate the movie and Gump & Co. was his reaction to it?  I read the first page of that book, and the opening line reads something like, "If anybody ever offers to make a movie of your life, don't do it."

Winston Groom got rather badly treated by the Hollywood nabobs, mainly because he fell for the old "profit participation" trick.  His contract was short on up-front money, in exchange for a nice piece of the profits the movie made.  Well, thanks to creative (and standard) Hollywood bookkeeping, the mega-hit Forrest Gump never got out of the red, and Groom's big percentage of zero comes out to zero.  I don't know how much he hated the movie as a movie, but it's dead sure he hates the studio behind it. (He cannot be too happy with his agent, either, who should have known better than to get hornswoggled that way.)

His revenge was to write about how he'd gotten mistreated in his next book.  Spitball against a tank, I fear.
