A few of us were having a discussion in another thread about what the Academy Awards means and that their were so really dreadful choices made by the Academy.

So, what is the worst movies, actors, actress or directors that have won the award for the nominated project.  Here are some of mine:

The English Patient - This movie was the drizzling shits.  3+ hours of the most boring dialogue in the world
Chariots Of Fire - BBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
Titanic - 2 1/2 hours of a unenteresting love story, 30 minutes disaster movie.

I will post more when they come to me.

I was 14 or so when this movie came out and it was the bestest movie I'd ever seen and I could never in a million years imagine a better movie and anyone who didn't like it was a loser.  A LOSER!

By the time it came out on video, I was too old for it.  And it was then I learned that apparently the entire Academy was a group of 8th grade girls.

I also don't think that movie has aged very well, it was only released 11 years ago and it really looks dated.  to me, it is a gooey chick flick like Dirty Dancing with a boat crash at the end.

As bad as it was that Shiteanic got all those awards, it pales in comparison to the time they gave the award for Best Song to that piece of shit from An Inconvenient Truth, despite the fact that it was by far the WORST song amongst the nominees.  I just about put my foot through my TV set when it happened.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Best Documentary - Bowling for Columbine ...... this is not a political statement on my part as to why I think it is a piece of shit, it is because of all of the inaccurate statements and ambush interviewing.  Truly terrible.

Halle Berry, or as I like to call her, "The Only Black Woman Hollywood Isn't Afraid Of"'s Best Actress award. Maybe she DID deliver an award winning preformance in Monster's Ball, but since the movie's premise of racist trailor trash in love attracted a somewhat limited audience, (consisting primarily of the Academy,) neither I nor anyone else ever saw her preformance.

Oh, how could I forget the dreck that was Chicago..............truly a hideous film.  It took me five attemps to watch that movie.

Ugh, that song was awful. I was turning down the volume 1/4 the way it. It was pretty obvious it was chosen because of its political message rather than because of how it sounded which is pretty sad.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Kevin Costner and Mel Gibson for best director.
Tom Hanks winning anything.
Forrest Gump.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

I don't have that much a problem with Forest Gump as a movie (I actually quite like it), but the fact that it won so much over Shawshank is a crime (if ever was there a movie that deserved best picture, it was that one. And it got squat. For shame). And it may just be because I'm a fanboy for him (probably for that, actually), but I think Tarentino should've gotten Best Director that year.

It always bugs me when one movie sweeps the awards, it just doesn't feel right (also when a movie gets a bunch of nominees and wins in every category except the acting ones. Every now and again I'm OK with it, but for the most part it's a film winning off it's technical achievements and not the people preforming).

If I can go oldschool, The Greatest Show On Earth won in 1952 when every other film nominated (High Noon, Ivanhoe, Moulin Rouge, The Quiet Man) was so much better then it.

But nothing mentioned so far beats the horror that was Shakespeare in Love.

Doctor Who?

An Inconvenient Truth wining Best Documentary.  How can a movie that is about what someone thinks is going to happen in the year 2050 be a Documentary?

This is the sort of thing that is ruining the History Chanle.

Also how could you give The greatest show on Earth best picture?!

doggans

Cars losing Best Animated Picture. Tragic.

ninjacat11

Pan's Labyrinth not winning Best Foreign Film.

Crash winning over Brokeback Mountain.

Forrest Gump.
