For the DVD authors out there, here is the NTSC subtitles for The Matrix in .srt format.  You can format this to a sup using Subtitle Creator or srt2sup.  This srt contains html italic tags.  Subtitle Creator can handle them, i'm not sure about srt2sup or other programs.  If you don't want them, you can do a Find/Replace for the closing and ending tags.

I'm working to create srt files for all the movies released.  I can't make a PAL version of this since it has edits and I don't have access to a DVD.  If anyone has a PAL or UK edited DVD I can instruct them how to create a srt file to post for people.

I used Subtitle Creator to convert the srt to sup for IFOEdit, but somehow when I made the DVD, the subtitles turn up solid green, which makes it kinda hard to read. Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Sharktopus

I don't remember there being any subtitles in The Matrix.

Another running joke that isn't funny?

He's posting the subtitles, not 'forced subtitles'. every movie has subtitles.

Sharktopus

Oh, derf. I didn't even consider that. Nevermind.

And my thread isn't about running jokes. I love running jokes. It's about certain types of references that keep popping up in different Riffs. Arrgh!

BathTub

And my reference was that someone asks this question in every Subtitle thread.

Far be it for me to break a tradition.

Sorry, I didn't notice that this issue came up until now.  I need to know what edition of the DVD you used, and what muxing program you used.

MSTJedi

It's the original version that came out in '99. I used IFOEdit to author the DVD.

Did you select the original ifo when using IfoEdit?

Shinigami

I just found this.  I typically use ReJig since IfoEdit has known bugs for NTSC video.

You can use ifoedit to replace the CLUT (Color Look up Table) in the Ifo of your authored dvd files from the decrypted Ifo file.  That should fix the subtitle color.  However, I also heard about a known "green subtitle bug" in ifoedit.  I'm currently moving to Muxman, which you also have to replace the CLUT manually, but the muxed DVD output is very good quality.
