I secretly like Harry Potter's fat cousin and uncle, just because the Harry Potter series insists that I not. Take that, Harry Potter series!
Oh bite me, it's fun!

I recently read a young adult book series that sorta makes fun of Harry potter...and it made me laugh really hard, when the kid in the book is dropped off at his foster parents home by his grandpa, and told the kid he would be back soon.

...so the kid gets all sad since he doesn't like his foster parents, and his grandpa comes back five minutes later to pick him up. and the kid goes, "how come you came back so fast?" and the grandpa replies, "Why would I leave you at a place where you don't like to stay, you don't like the people who take care of you, you are seperated from the people that do like you, and the enemy knows right where you live? Gosh, I thought you were a smart kid!"

...it made me laugh...you know, since they leave harry at his aunt and uncles all the time.

I've always been amused by the extraordinary lengths to which Rowling goes to explain that in the later books.

Which book are you describing, by the way?
I thought I was Dale.

Absolutely superior to Harry Potter in every way, even if it is much more light hearted. I loved this book and read it in one sit down, absolutely hilarious. There is even a special page devoted to people who skip ahead to see how it ends (the author hates it when people do that).

Alcatraz versus the evil librarians?!!

Just the fact that such a book exists makes me proud to be an American (but not as proud as when I watched the Patriotism short, hosted by Bob Krane)
Oh bite me, it's fun!

Read the book...its awesome. He makes it seem like librarians are the real rulers of the world, and that all sorts of things we think aren't true, actually are, but the librarians keep us from learning about them.

...just so you know...all the heroes are named after famous prisons. Because the librarians wanted to make the heroes in the book associated with unpleasant things, so they changed the names of all the prisons in the world.

space_mutiny

I can only think of 3 prisons: Alcatraz, Attica, and Sing-Sing.

It makes me wonder what the other names of the characters were...
Oh bite me, it's fun!

Fortis

Congrats...you just named three different characters.

Could you please enlighten me here. Just what did Rowling say was the reason for Harry staying with his Aunt and Uncle? I got the impression from the movies (Never read the books.) that he really didn't have any Grandparents.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

You need to read ALL the books!!!

If you don't read the books, you miss a lot of what was cut-out (even if you do watch the extended-versions on ABC Family every major holiday they're aired) from the movie and from the storylines.  There's TONS of stuff that's not in the movies and the 7th book is the reason why there will be 2 movies for it.  There's too much stuff in the last book for just one movie.

I ask because its odd that an adult would get enjoyment out of a book for kids that is marketed as a book that insults a book for even younger kids.

I'm 19, and yes it is marketed for early junior high kids. But seriously, this book was hilarious. Just like many animaniacs episodes and other kids shows...some of them have humor in them intended for adults. But you don't have to read it, if you want to have your precious books geared for adults, you can have them.
