...about what happens if directors like M. Night Shyamalan kept on directing films in the same genre all over again.

I'm not bashing The Happening. Infact, i liked the movie. I like the plot, and the moments that goes WTF? in a good way. However, while watching it i realised that M. Night has to move on with something else. His plot-twisted thriller films are getting duller and duller everyday. Bad scriptwriting, horrible camera close-ups of actors' faces, and a twist ending that would make you laugh. I can't stand the dialogue and close-ups of Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel. It's like he's repeating what he has done with the last 3 films.

I remember watching Shyamalan's 2 earlier Indian films, and both were quite good. And he once said of wanting to direct a Harry Potter film. I think i would support Shyamalan if he had done something else. Heck, i don't mind him doing a Hong Kong crime thriller starring Eric Tsang. Anything would do as long as it's not a plot-twisted thriller. And the Happening would've been better if it was more like Children of Men and less Lady in the Water.

And here's the trailer of Fernando Mereilles' new movie "Blindness. This film's basically The Happening except that it's less Shyamalan and more Alfonso Cuaron. And instead of mother nature, it's blindness. And eventhough it was badly received in Cannes, i'm pretty sure it'd be 100x better than the Happening:

PS: The Happening is screaming for a RiffTrax.

"Signs" killed my desire to ever watch any M. night schamalamadingdong movie again...

....that something like this could actually be greenlit and produced?

The Happening makes me wonder if there's really a future for the human race   who I sue to get that hour-and-a-half of my life back   if my love for John Leguizamo truly knows no bounds   if studios aren't deliberately greenlighting movies for the specific purpose of being RiffTrax bait.

I really think The Happening could be the next "midnight movie" sensation.

Tron

You should be amazed you got out of the theater without having to gnaw your own arm off to distract yourself from the horror....

Uh, you didn't gnaw your own arm off, I'm assuming here....?

No, he jumped into a lion habitat and, well, the rest is YouTube history...

Fuzzy Necromancer

Instead of The Blindness, read or rent "day of the triffids". It's a much cooler movie involving consequences of a global blindness epidemic.

Well, Tau, you might get your wish.  Shyamalan's apparently directing the live-action film version of the Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Apparently.
