The "Really Cool Girl" Is Back! (And Everything Buffy Season 8)

Bad Day. Started out bad, stayed that way.

My fanboy heart burst from my chest when I read the beginning of Time of Your Life. Was there possibly a better way to start off Book 16 then give a wink to the fans of Fray?

I wanted to start a thread on Season 8 for a while but decided to wait until this big event in the Buffyverse. And for the fans of Buffy that aren't reading these, I highly recommend it as the Big Bad in this season's shaping up to be a total bad-ass.

My thoughts on the first book of Time of Your Life

I loved it (no surprise)....

- The first three pages were pure bliss...Starting with, not chonologically, but in order of immediate importance...who the hell is this person?
     - Fray, I missed you plenty!
- Dawn's a frikkin' centaur...don't cheat on your significant other!
     - Xander referring to Dawn as Flicka 
- Twilight's back! With the assistance of Warren/Amy...Castle Slayer is no more.
- Kennedy, dammit...she is alive! *shakes fists*
- By chance, were the actions by Buffy/Willow in Book 10 "Anywhere But Here" play a role in the temporal anomaly affecting the timestream in Manhattan?
- The very last page...Fray "You're lower than a lurk." for which Buffy responded "Uh...English?" So awesome!

This is gonna be a ride for the next 3+ months!

And if it wasn't for this book, I'd have never known Johnny Rico is coming back in Starship Troopers 3! Rico, I'm so over that!!

I've been hesitant to dive into the Buffy Season 8 and Angel Season 5 since both shows (unlike other folks opinion it seems) left me with good closure.

But damn, I may have to dive into my FIRST EVER comic books.

Question for the fans, is the writing up to par with the shows..... do the characters feel the same?

The writing is superb. It's been to date...Joss, Drew Goodard, and Runaways' creator, Brian K. Vaughan (who delivered a grand slam with Faith's arc). The bantering between Buffy, Willow, and Xander in this present book is about as good as it has gotten in quite a while in Buffy...my humble opinion.

Jane Espenson is coming on board after Joss finishes up the present arc. The news keeps getting better. Oh...and Season 9 is coming, according to Joss!

I was glad to see Kennedy but also to see Violet.

And, as I mentioned before, I hope Dawn's next transformation is mermaid like as it's the most ascetically pleasing (judging by future covers they want something that's pleasing on the eye

) plus it opens up some useful tactical applications (like Godzilla Dawn from a couple of issues ago ).

I'll be interested in seeing how Centawn proves useful.

Oh and I loved the Les-Faux line

Hey Tripe, where do you find the future covers? A part of me wouldn't mind seeing them, but then again, I do enjoy the surprise every month sans this past one. I was prematurely exposed to Book 16 (the end of February?). There wasn't any conceivable way I was going to avoid that one.

I'll be interested in seeing how Centawn proves useful.

You know it's coming! In what capacity, who knows,but I'm sure Joss will deliver.The Dawzilla/MechaDawn fight, in Tokyo, was a stroke of genius. But then again, the entire fight in Tokyo was pretty sweet. It was fun seeing Dracula taking part in some fierce action in helping out his manservant. Poor Xander concerning Renee...

What I'm very excited about, when it comes to merging this eighth season with Fray's world, is we should be getting some answers on the Slayer who "supposedly" put an end to all of the demons in the 21st century. Therefore placing an end to all things, Magicks, in Fray's time. It fits in tightly with Twilight's ambitions to wanting to place an end to Magicks, too. There's going to be some fireworks going off in this arc, and I'm crossing my fingers for an appearance by Fray's brother, Harth. He's hanging around and poses big-time trouble.

It's more I didn't like those "Kennedy screws up here comes zombie Tara" novels. Actually I don't mind Kennedy. Who I really dig is Violent.

Actually if you put in the story arc title in Wiki you can find them but I think Dark Horse has them up on thier Buffy page too (along with the variants)

Regarding Kennedy, it's isn't that I necessarily have anything against her, but in the wake of the post Tara/Oz life for Willow in Season 7, Willow's budding relationship with her felt very inorganic. Transcending the sexual appeal of Kennedy, I don't understand what Willow sees in her in contrast with the colorful and substantial natures Tara & Oz possessed/possess. I'll be at odds with that until it ends...well, I'm hoping it ends. 

Major spoiler...did you hear who's making his much-anticipated return during Espenson's run?

Two more things, did you hear "naked" Willow's going to be in this arc? Secondly, do you have any guesses on who Twilight is as of yet? I've gone on record, after "A Beautiful Sunset", and placed my hand on the Iowa farmboy...Riley Finn. I do need much more to work with though.

Whedon and Moline won't say, other than to reveal that younger sister Dawn will be going through even more changes (as a sort of mystical STD she got from sleeping with a thricewise, she's already been a giant, and soon she'll become a centaur). Also, we'll be seeing a naked Willow soon.

"I had my fiancee pose for that one," Moline said of the drawing. "It'll be a nice, special-looking pose."

"It'll be tasteful, unless he does it the way I wrote it," Whedon laughed. Don't assume it's another sex scene with Buffy, but something is about to happen that will rock the Scoobies' world.

It was the attack on Buffy's moral certainty that had my eyes perk up a bit. Whomever this is comes across as being grounded, intelligent, physical, and a knack for how the mystical works. It fits Riley to a T, but there's much more that needs to be exposed. But I wouldn't be surprised if it is. In a matter of fact, I'd be very excited. Riley shedding his Teutonic skin.
