I do too.... that is why I had to buy all the DVDs from Rhino and from the various folks selling the non-Rhino DVDs.   I watch at least one a week.   At least!

Finished watchng "Giant Spider Invasion" last night and I forgot how funny that was...... VAAAANCE!

For all the reasons stated by others, I don't expect it to return, but I still look at what AMC has become since they added commercial breaks to the movies and think that would be the home for it as a Saturday midnight show.
Comedy Central did an anniversary special within the last couple of years and MST3K was conspiculously missing throughout the celebration.
As to people having false memories of the show, I still remember the representative of the SciFi Channel at the 1996 convention speaking of the first time he ran across MST on cable and mentioning ZsaZsa Gabor in some space movie.   I realized he was thinking of the movie "Queen of Outer Space" which was never Msted, so it happens even with people who should know better.

Most of my favourite shows aren't popular, and I'd hazard a guess most of the favourites of people reading this board. Monty Python was incredibly unpopular when it first started, and never really set the ratings on fire. "Vic Reeves Big Night Out" never really drew much more than a large cult following. "Firefly" and "Brimstone" were both cancelled halfway through their runs. And we can all think of shows we liked that finished their run, had you waiting for more then just never got renewed.

So everyone using the ratings as an excuse not to bring it back is kinda missing the point- shows with worse ratings that cost more to make have continued to be made, and shows that cost less (or about the same) that had better ratings have been cancelled. And someone used the reason that channels don't have as much air to fill nowadays- well, I don't know what it's like in the USA, but the UK has many more channels than we had 5 minutes ago, and all that happens is we get a lot more of the same shows in the daytime and a lot more infomercials and phone-ins at night (several times in the week you can flick through the stations and get "That 70s Show" at exactly the same time, at different points in the run, on three different channels).

Cost of producing? Look at the credits list for the early episodes. It didn't employ an enormous amount of people and the sets can't have cost them much to produce. I don't know about the rights for the episodes, but there are so many bad movies still being produced and then disappearing completely from view that I'd hazard a guess it couldn't cost that much.

Before I give the reason why I think it's not been brought back, I'll mention Rifftrax. I'm glad it exists but it's going to be limited by the sort of films people own or can get their hands on easily. I've loved some of them but others haven't fired on all cylinders, to put it mildly. They seem to be avoiding the truly terrible films being made as well, for some reason (no Uwe Boll?)

I think it's not been brought back because TV is getting worse and worse. There's blips, of course, but there's far more advertising on TV than there was even 5 years ago and the people in charge of TV (fewer and fewer people, as channels get bought up by bigger abd bigger corporations) just don't take risks. Why pay for a show which mocks bad old movies (probably produced by another arm of the same corporation) when for the same amount of money and slightly lower ratings, they can just show another set of reruns? Or why not just show a couple of hours of infomercials and make a few dollars? Look at stuff like "Night Flight" from the early 80s- that was groundbreaking, innovative and brilliant, and they'll never in a million years show anything like it again.

Yes, listen to the wisdom of Mick Jagger...

I personally prefer the rifftrax format to the MST3k format and this is almost exactly like having a new episode every week.  Do you really need the premise to call it MST3k?  This is the guts of MST3k.

I think having Mike working again (ok, it's not like he's been in the unemployment line and camping at a homeless shelter, but you know what I mean) is more than enough.  I figured I'd never see that again...and we have the other guys too occasionally.  I'm betting that if it picks up enough there will be more tracks with the other guys.

Mst3k was great but it's over.  Look what it's matured/morphed into. It's just as good!  You can make your own Tom Servo and Crow and set them in front of your TV and pretend it's MST3k.

I know tons of people keep saying this is not MST3k 2.0 but I think it is.  The next version implies something has improved (unless it's a Microsoft product) and oftentimes the packaging has changed or the looks of a software.  This is the next version of MST3k to me and it's even better than before.

No, I'm not kissing Rifftrax's ass but I really think fans ask for too much.  They're trying to give us what we want but it's never enough.
I think this pretty much sums it up for me. I'd rather have the Rifftrax. well put AmandaGal...
Except for this! For this you are dead to me!  :P

Did you ever install Windows ME?  :P  I had the beta of Vista going for a while and it, well, maybe I should take this to the Mac vs PC thread.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Sharktopus

I can understand someone preferring Windows over Mac, but you'd have to be in deep, deep denial to believe that the initial release of a Microsoft product could be anything more than a box full of bugs needing countless future patches and upgrades.

I'm just razzing you guys hence the  :P
But I really don't mind not having MST3K, I'm happy with the rifftracks. Well put AmandaGal

davo

from what i heard mike say in an interview best brains owns the rights to the name, et al. and they don't want to revive it.

so...no new mst3k.  sad but true.

you can't show the old ones without licensing the content from best brains AND the movie studio who owned the movie they riffed on, and that's not financially feasible.

no matter the title of the work, I'm just glad it's still happening I just stumbled upon this after borrowing the "Mr. B's lost shorts" disk from a friend. It gladdens my heart and other sundry body parts that these fearless celluloid vigilantes are yet strinking the heart of movie cheese, swissing it with every riff! gladness and a glimmer of hope; perhaps at the hands of these skilled artisans UWE BOLL WILL PAY FOR EVERYTHING HE HAS EVER WASTED FILM ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
