Coming Soon ... Signs of Things to Come

I saw three movies last week, all of them relatively- to extremely recent: Hancock, Kit Kittredge, and Wanted.

As a side note, this was my reaction to all three movies, in order: "Thank heavens it didn't suck as bad I had feared", "kill-me-kill-me-kill-me-kill-me-kill-me-OH NOOOOO IT'S WALLACE SHAWN!!!! KILL-ME-KILL-ME-KILL-ME-KILL-ME!!!", and "you had me distracted until you tried to make sense of things by explaining the purpose of the central plot device".

Anyway.

The point is, I've seen a lot of previews in the last week.  Here are my thoughts - I'd like to hear yours.

- Burn After Reading.  I'll give any Coen Bros. film a fair shot, because I actually like their work.  Little concerned about Brad Pitt's appearance in this one, but ... maybe Malkovich can save him?

- Eagle Eye.  I'll watch it, but only because there's a high probability of getting to see Shia LaBeouf whacked around and badly bloodied (this was also the main reason why I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull)

- Step Brothers.  No.  No way.  Someone take away Will Farrell's license to make movies.  Please.

- The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.  Again, no thank you.  As far as I can tell from the previews, there isn't even really a "mummy" in this movie.

- Hellboy II.  If I do end up seeing this, I promise to get absolutely baked out of my mind before I go.

- Space Chimps.  Actually, this looked like it might have some potential.  Monkeys can be funny, right?  I'll take a few small children with me to see this, just for some insurance (these kinds of films are always funnier and more enjoyable when watched in the company of small children)

- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Looks quite interesting.  I'm actually looking forward to seeing it.

- Swing Vote.  Kevin Costner, playing a beer-swilling, dead-beat, slightly red-neckish bum who calls himself "Bud"?  I have a theory about actors being able to pull of some of their best work when placed in roles that allow them to be in their natural environment (c.f. Colin Farrell in Bruges, where the Irishman plays an Irishman, and actually does a decent job of it) - so maybe this won't be so bad?

This guy?

Actually, I'm slightly excited for this movie, the other mummy movies were stupid too, but they were still fun action movies.

I think there's a lot of promising films coming out over the next year or so.  Cormac Macarthy's The Road looks especially interesting.

Oh it's very bad....
Hmmm......

Well, not having seen it I can't comment on anything specific but....

So, he's not 20 anymore....it happens.

He still looked cute in the movie trailer.

Actually his not being twenty was probably the motivator, he's had some bad surgery of late. I'm trying to find the pic. I think somebody posted a "good" one on one of the other threads recently.

Well, if someone talked him in to that, they should be shot.

Yep I don't get it either, I mean he's quite a pretty man I thought, not sure he really needed any work done ???
