After all the build up over things like "Jingle all the Way" and "Santa Claus: The Movie" it sure feels like a lump of coal to get a 22 min Rankin  Bass short.

Keep in mind, though, that most of the build-up was generated by board members.  I don't recall anybody promising a feature length Christmas RiffTrax.

These guys have been grinding away non-stop for months now.  I don't begrudge them taking a little breather for the Holidays.  There is, after all, festive family fun and an orgy of mass consumerism to attend to.  Plus, there's actually sun and stuff out here.  They probably wouldn't mind getting the hell out of the office for a while.

Consider it an opportunity to buff up your collection of classic Christmas shorts, so that you may irritate your children for years to come by trying to make them appreciate the simple pleasures of stop-motion Santa.

I'm thinking Steve-O wins MVP this go round.  PM a mod when you want your free RiffTrax.

I was thinking it would be either him (Rankin/Bass and the article questions) or me (Holiday and Animated questions).

Congrats Steve-O!   ;D

All this talk about Rankin/Bass holiday specials, I think I'm gonna run to the Best Buy tomorrow and pick up the box set (Is Nestor in that one too?)

Yay!  It's a Christmas miracle!
That last message was not an attempt to butt-kiss my way to the MVP slot, by the way.

Sadly, no.  The current boxed set edition includes only these six films:

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Santa Claus is Comin' To Town
Frosty the Snowman
Frosty Returns
The Little Drummer Boy
Cricket on the Hearth

I'd avoid it.  Any Rankin/Bass boxed set that omits The Year Without a Santa Claus for Frosty Returns or Cricket on the Hearth is not deserving of your hard-earned dollar.

Not trying to pee in anyone's Wheaties or sound like a Negative Nancy, but the main page's Christmas poll (from way back...and of course not fan made!) had only feature length films on it. Rudolph et. al. were talked about on the forums... so it's not like I am just pulling this one outta my butt or anything. And the main vote getters there were Its a Wonderful Life (perhaps one of the very best movies ever made. EVER) and Jingle all the Way (which is basically the opposite of Frank Capra.) As much as I , like most everyone else, love this movie (Life, not Jingle) it would be a funny Rifftrax!
Of course I am not begrudging them for wanting to perhaps take a break etc...I'd rather Mike take an easy one and rest up than be riffed out and the project die.

I'm not complaining,  I'm just saying....
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

look forward to the new riff ;D

... now that Christmas is outa the way... what do we get for new years?   8)

The polls are taken into consideration, but they're just there for fun, as I understand it. :^)

I'm just thrilled to death that an idea I posted way way back was actually executed, in a way. Little shorter than my suggestion, but I'm not gonna bah humbug the unique chance of seeing Rankin Bass animation riffed on. :^) Looking forward to this one!

It should be pretty well established at this point that the polls are just a bit of moderator-generated amusement that have little-to-no impact on the films that are eventually picked.  And torgo'sPizza has been hinting pretty clearly for a while now that they didn't really have anything big planned for Christmas.

On the other hand, I completely understand people's expectations being so high, what with the incredible amount of attention the crew has given the fans so far.  I'm really not trying to call anybody overly negative or ungrateful for feeling a little let down.  I'm just trying to point out that the RiffTrax team have been almost too kind to us, that they deserve a break today, and that we should all chip in and buy them a five dollar McDonald's gift certificate.

I agree.  That movie's so indelibly inked into my consciousness from repeat viewings that riffing it would be like gently tweaking the nose of an old friend.  I don't think Mike will ever do it, though.  He's stated on record that he doesn't want to do films that he personally loves, including It's a Wonderful Life; not because they wouldn't be funny, but because the intense scrutiny required to riff a movie would forever ruin the film for him.

Haven't noticed if someone asked, but since we're getting a dinky cool Rifftrax, is it going to go for a dinky cool price? Or have you guys decided yet? :^)

Yay! Can't argue with that price!  I've been waiting for that something special to bump me into the Christmas spirit, and I think this'll be it. :^)

Thanks for the link, Conor.  If by an chance this gets taken down due to copyright issues, there are ways of saving a YouTube video (not that I'm condoning any such behaviour  ;)).  A quick search on google should give all the necessary information to do so, if you wish.

J-Proof

Haha no problem. The price is actually lsited o nthe poster for the movie we made, but if you are on your phone (as usual) then you probably can't see it, no?

Enjoy the riff! Expected arrival date is 12/19/06
