Here's the preview clip without audio ducking, for comparison:

That very closely matches how I mix my RT voice overs, eegah. Your audio is nicely blended, I can't detect any ducking at all. Plus you can hear the narrator and riffers clearly.

They just need to equalize the amplitudes better before they autoduck.  I try to do mine so the riffers peak amplitude is slightly higher than the peak amplitude of the source audio, but these new mixes are far superior to the other mixes they did.  I haven't bothered re-doing the latest ones, but they could be improved slightly.

I got no issues with the downloading or the auto-ducking.  Good job and keep them coming,

The auto-ducking grates on my nerves.  It's not the volume it's going to or from, it's the abruptness of it each time.  It's too rough to me.

It sounds like this to me:

I never duck like that (and never ever ever ever EVER auto-duck).  Should be more like this:

The ease in and out of it instead of a sharp drop-off makes all the difference in the world to me.

And in a lot of cases the shorts don't really need ducking.  Myself, I only do it if the movie gets way too loud or a riff is way too low.

It's nothing against the efforts of the Rifftrax crew.  It's all great work.  Just a personal preference in my case.  Having edited video for years now, I'm just very particular about my mixes.

Any chance of getting an MP3 download and getting clues in on where we might find the harder-to-find shorts for ourselves (if possible)?  Or maybe just forgo the ducking.  I like the mix in eegah's sample.

Speaking of audio... has anyone else downloaded the mpeg version and had absolutely no audio at all?  I've tried downloading it four times today at various times, and am still getting nothing but silence.  And the previous short is working fine, so I know it's not a codec issue or anything.  I suppose I could just try to play the video and the MP3 at the same time, but would prefer a simplified version if at all possible.  :)

I had the same problem watching this on my Mac through Quicktime. I played it through the VLC player and got audio though. It's there... but something got encoded differently.

Reading your post gave me the idea to try out the video in various players:  WMP10 (which is what I originally tried it in), RealPlayer, and Media Player Classic all played the video with no audio.  Nero ShowTime, however, plays with audio just fine.  Weird.

Hmmm, as the person who encoded the mpeg2, I will look into this tomorrow and see if about fixing it.
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

I think the ducking is really unnecessary and makes it difficult to enjoy.

Really?

I listened to Eegah's sample, and I don't like it. What about when the riffers start talking over the narrator? You need to have ducking at that point, otherwise it's just a mish-mash of talking and it sounds like noise. Is that really what you guys would prefer?

Perhaps the attack of the ducking could be adjusted - I think a reasonable comparison would be to alter what we're doing now by increasing the riffer audio so it's a little louder than the source, and easing up a bit on the ducking. That way it's more subtle. But I think it's definitely a requirement, especially in the event of someone talking over dialogue within the short itself.

EDIT: After reviewing some more of the clip, I do agree that the levels have some quality lacking. It seems like there is a lot of variance in the riffer commentary...
