Yeah, to me it almost could be used two ways. First, it's part of a TV series. Second, there is a sequel coming out this year. To me that also makes it "part of a series."

I wouldn't say it's vague. The fact that Final Fantasy has a sequel (even if it's direct to DVD... I think anyways) would constitute as being a series. Even if they are standalone, they are still part of a franchise. Maybe franchise is a better word.
