You do know that they (Best Brains) didn't cancel the show right? You do know that it would require a network to pony up the money right, and that it was canceled because the networks didn't want it anymore?

The short answer is that it's just financially feasible.

A company with a huge film library like Turner could produce a version of the show where they riff Turner-owned movies, but since riffing tends to imply that a movie is bad, no one wants to pay some guys with puppets to make fun of their movies.

It's been said before, but I don't know why Sci-Fi doesn't just put them back on and defray the costs by using their own horrid movies.

And I'm sure a company with a huge library of unwatchable crap would be more than glad to get some value out of it- people who inherited 20,000 shitty movies aren't thinking "these are part of the Turner family!", they're thinking "man, I'd like to use this junk for something.

You'd think so, but we're talking about TV executives here. They don't have wits enough to rub together and start a fire.

I personally prefer the rifftrax format to the MST3k format and this is almost exactly like having a new episode every week.  Do you really need the premise to call it MST3k?  This is the guts of MST3k.

I think having Mike working again (ok, it's not like he's been in the unemployment line and camping at a homeless shelter, but you know what I mean) is more than enough.  I figured I'd never see that again...and we have the other guys too occasionally.  I'm betting that if it picks up enough there will be more tracks with the other guys.

Mst3k was great but it's over.  Look what it's matured/morphed into. It's just as good!  You can make your own Tom Servo and Crow and set them in front of your TV and pretend it's MST3k.

I know tons of people keep saying this is not MST3k 2.0 but I think it is.  The next version implies something has improved (unless it's a Microsoft product) and oftentimes the packaging has changed or the looks of a software.  This is the next version of MST3k to me and it's even better than before.

No, I'm not kissing Rifftrax's ass but I really think fans ask for too much.  They're trying to give us what we want but it's never enough.
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

My mommy tought me to be happy with what I got, and I am in this case  ;D (Only this case lol...)

BUT, I'd like both around. I'd go "pants crapping insane" if any network would just run SOME of the re-runs. But Rifftrax has taken away all my mst3k missing pain. Heck, there are still quite a few mst3k eps I haven't gotten yet, and it seems like when you have that many shows, there's always one to go back and watch that seems new due to too much time, beers, etc since you last watched it.

But just look at it like this. Someone would have to basically bribe a good bit of the cast to come back. It would have to be done in Eden Prairie, and so on and so forth. Then it would have to make a little money on top of that. And where by chance would that come from? DVD sales? It's just not gonna bring in the buckazoids, at least not in this 8 CSI's/Cold Cases Morbidity enraptured generation. And I HATE that.

I say it all the time. If I win the lottery, mst3k will come back. I will make it happen.  ;D

Snowhead the Blue Reindeer gave me all the presents in the world.

I might be of the minority here but I prefer the riffing of new movies. plus its even allowed me to get some friends into the fun, people that never heard of mst3k but are interested when i tell them that xmen or lotr has comedians making fun of it.

Y'know, I've been sayin' the same thing about Firefly!!!

I don't understand why they don't bring it back!

We can't always get what we want.  :(

Red Tape

I actually like Rifftrax better then MST3K. Not that MST was bad or anything - it was great. But they were highly limited on the movies that they could riff because they had to get the rights to the movies. So that pretty much limited them to either public domain movies, or really old bad ones.

Rifftrax, on the other hand, can make fun of anything. Even if MST3K were to come back, do you think they could ever have done Star Wars I, Top Gun, or even Crossroads? I don't think they could. This way, we get big budget bad movies that otherwise we never would have seen riffed.

Variety of Cells

Mike's a free bird now.  To cage him in a show where he has to listen to executives would be a step backward.  We, the fans, have so much input into the content of Rifftrax that it's crazy.  Maybe it's the skits you want back, but for me they have been replaced by 20 questions and Da penguin riddles.  All the fun is still here, it's just changed.

YAAAAY! Another Firefly fan! There are rumors that there will be a TV movie made for it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Joss Whedon is a busy, busy man and he's said on numerous occasions that he wouldn't mind revisiting Firefly/Serenity at some point, but it won't be for a while. The energy to write a TV series for it again is simply not there.

As for MST3k, I think anything can happen. I've seen numerous shows brought back from the brink of death by the fans (ex: X-Files) and then outright brought back literally from death (ex: Family Guy) outright by the fans. I think in MST3K's case, it depends on if the writers/creators want it back or no. The fanbase is certianly there. There might even be enough of us to influence a network. Life moves on for many, but I'd be happy with just reruns, personally. Either way I'm happy because 1) MST3K lives on forever on DVD and in the fan community and 2) Rifftrax is here to scratch the riff itch.
