Oh, a Silver Surfer movie is totally do-able, there's a ton of comics that could be developed, but I am pretty sure this'll be pants.

On the other hand, Del Toro directing Dr Strange? THAT I am happy about.

I, Robot IS a good movie, IF you ignore the blatant product placement, and IF you pretend that it isn't based on Asimov's work. As a kick back and relax action romp, it's actually quite entertaining. The only thing that actually makes it a bad movie is that it tries to pretend that it is I, Robot. :)

That's more or less my take on it.  I had to watch it for a class and was pleasantly surprised by it.

Every movie is good if you ignore all of the bad things in it!

It's a good theory, but I feel I must disagree with your logic. Some movies have so many bad things in them that if you ignore those things, you only get the ending credits. And what if the songs it ends with suck? Then you haven't even watched the movie at all, meaning the entire movie wasn't good.

If you don't believe me, try watching Bloodrayne.

If you haven't watched a movie, then can't really rate it as good OR bad though, right? So I guess you could then say, it doesn't count as a movie, and my logic still works.

Well, my only issue with your logic is that it indicates that if the worst movie ever made had even one good element in it, it could suddenly be a good movie if everything else about it got ignored. There comes a point when the good can't outweigh the bad, and the movie becomes unwatchable for its badness.

But I'm not trying to be facetious, split hairs or get the last word. My main point was that Bloodrayne is 100% bad.  :)

Yeah, but will they make it a "space movie" or will the studio demand that they make sure it's based on Earth? If Marvel's in charge, I see greater potential for it, but like Thor, the Silver Surfer as a main character will be very difficult to get right.

Agreed - it is UNLIKELY that it will be good.

Quite funny you should mention that, since the current writer of Thor, JMS (Babylon 5) was the writer of the upcoming Silver Surfer film.

You completely misunderstood or oversimplified my point. I did not say that ignoring things makes bad movies good, I said that one or two annoying elements (shoes and cars with brand names on them, the name of the movie) does not turn a good movie into a bad one. I, Robot is not, in my opinion, a bad movie. Certainly it's not a classic or a high ranker, but it was ENJOYABLE if you like the occasional disconnected brain action / adventure.

There is a difference between movies like I, Robot, which at least can be enjoyed and have redeeming qualities, and movies like... um... anything Uwe Boll has ever done, which are just lost causes. Again, this is IN MY OPINION... you don't have to agree with me, but liking a movie doesn't make me, or my arguements, stupid.

Try something a little more constructive than calling peoples' arguements stupid for no good reason next time, and maybe your opinions will be better receeived, m'kay? :)

Well since I was so serious I am so worried about that. Thank you.

PS, I, Robot is a turd of a film.

'Product placement' rarely (if ever) bothers me.

Quote from: Fortis on May 21, 2008, 06:00:48 PM
nobody would have seen it without the title I, Robot...

I don't have a graph or anything but I'm pretty confident people still would've seen it.

Pretty much only because Will Smith was in it.  You could film Will Smith taking a shit and people would go see it.

They'll cast it with Eddie Murphy as a misunderstood alien and it'll be a romantic comedy.  With fat suits, probably.  :-X
I suppose if Marvel makes it themselves it could be true to the comics but I can't see the Silver Surfer being interesting enough to carry his own movie.

I would see that as long as it isn't too graphic.

I, Robot is a bad movie in my opinion.  You can tell that it was re-written to death, and Will Smith talks to himself in the third-person again...
