Grey Gardens

Excellent film.

Yeah, I saw that on DVD the other day.  The main complaint brought against the movie is that it's exploitative, but I found that to be completely false.  I actually thought it was a warm portrait of an odd couple.  In the DVD extras, the younger of the women sent letters to critics who criticized the Maysles Brothers defending the movie.

Yeah I didn't find it exploitive, in fact it was sort of like those documentaries Louis Theroux makes where somebody who you imagine (based on public persona) you'll utterly despise or find irredeemably weird actually turns out to be not all that bad even if they are strange.

Is it me, or are you all just reposting the lists you made in the Greatest Movie Ever nominations thread?

Then I trade them out for two viewings of The Crush.   ;D  After posting about it the other day, I desperately crave watching it.  Will be watching it tonight over wine and pizza.  I encourage others to do the same.

In "good movie" news, I really trade them for Secretary and Less Than Zero (up for debate certainly, but I stand by that film as containing at least two great things: 1) incredible cinematography, and 2) Robert Downey Jr.'s performance.)

I would have added Secretary (one of my most favorite movies ever, along with Hedwig & the Angry Inch) but it's not as quotable as the movies I listed. I was trying to go with movies that Onil and I quote all the time, rather than just movies I adore.

But yeah, good choice there in Secretary.
