What is bad about the Princess Bride?  Convince me.

I really don't get the absolute worship of this movie. It's fine, it's cute. It's not a masterpiece. Fortis is right. :)

Thanks Imrahil

For me? Probably The Last Starfighter.

I understand the movie doesn't appeal to everyone but how is it badly made?

If you're referring to the computer animation - that was in it's infancy then.  It would be like saying that The Lost World back in 1926 had bad stop-motion when they were still working out how to do it at that time.

Ah. Yeah, I think I probably meant more like "guilty pleasure," than "badly made."
I think then that this is the first thing we agree on.   ;)

a pretty girl is like

Star Wars.

I also love zombie movies.

And someone already mentioned Commando.  It's on every couple of weeks on the Fox Movie Channel and goddamn if I can't help watching bits of pieces of it every time.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Convince me though.  Don't just say it's a bad movie.  What is bad in it?

I'm not going to say that Princess Bride is a bad movie, but I do abhor it. Being forced to watch it 2 or 3 times a day every day for 9 months will do that. I can never, ever watch that movie again without reliving that time.

As to the topic at hand, I'll go with any of the Friday the 13th movies (except Jason Takes Manhattan) to start. I know there are more (a lot more), but those are the first that leap out at me (in the dark, wearing a hockey mask, while I think about having sex and smoking pot).

That doesn't help since any movie will do that to you in that scenario.

True, but I wasn't saying PB was bad, nor was I trying to convince anyone else that it was. I was just sharing my opinion.

Tyrant

Cthulu Mansion. Terrible, terrible movie that runs the whole stereotypical gamut of "stupid, horny teens that inexplicably spend the night in a mansion rumored to be haunted and slowly but surely get killed one by one". For a long time, it was the only stupid movie in my collection, too.

Also, the third Crow movie. Kirsten Dunst looks less like a mutant somehow in it with her natural haircolor and some meat on her bones.

I forgot about Xanadu....it's so bad/good that it's on Broadway.
I am not above projectile vomiting to get my way

Fine then, where is that weasely bastard Fortis?

Oh, and Imrahil your opinions don't prove it's a bad movie either.  In fact you say you like it.  I just said it isn't bad, not that it is the most bestest movie.  Fortis has explaining to do.

Right. I think I was just getting at there being some "horribly made" aspects to it.  But I can certainly live without it.

Isaac, can you call this guy a fucking loser and throw some rolling eyes in there for me? kthnxbye

I thought I did explain why on the first page...let me try again though the appease you BTA. Okay...let me get this straight first...I enjoy this movie, I do. I watched it all the time when I was a kid, and I still get the occasional pleasure out of watching it today. But after taking a Film Studies class where we watched all kinds of movies from Citizen Kane and Casablanca, to some not so great movies, and also from watching MST3k, I've become very picky.

I still enjoy it, but as I watch it, I can see some weaknesses. My sister argues that it is just parodying(?) adventure movies, and it is supposed to be cheesy and campy, which makes that part a strength to what they are doing in the movie and not a weakness...but well, she's probably right.

The only characters I enjoyed were Inigo Montoya, and Wesley, and even they weren't developed into deep memorable characters. I understand this isn't that kind of movie, but what can I say, I enjoy well developed characters.

While the whole Fred Savage playing the sick kid and his Grandpa reading the story is supposed to come as comic relief and such...I find that it screws up the pacing of the entire movie for me, and isn't as funny as I remember it being when I was a kid. (Though I still get a kick out of the "murdered by pirates was good," line from Fred Savage).

Okay...I'm pretty sure I said this earlier on the first page, but, I like this movie, I do. Its just not a "desert island" movie, or a movie that is going to be on my top 10 list. It has its weaknesses, but its a great love story, and fun adventure movie. My original post was this...

I think any Cary Elwes movie is a horrible movie we can't live without...men in tights...princess bride...

This was in reply to Courtney's post about a Cary Elwes movie that she thought was horrible, but still liked it. I enjoyed both Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and the Princess Bride, so yeah...all I was doing was making a poor joke based off of Courtney's post. It was a joke.

But just so we know...I do like the Princess Bride! Its just not my favorite movie. Okay...I've explained myself the best way I know how...hope that's good enough for all of you.  :)
