Is there any proof that the guest stars get paid?  Since they can't charge for this how the hell do they get the money?  Would it be sadder or less said if George got paid?

Personally, I'd feel better for him if he did it for free since there could be no doubt that he's throwing fans a bone.  If he got paid we can only deduce he is THIS hard up for money.

Looks like they've had quite a few of the old Trek actors appear in these.  I'd find it hard to believe that they all worked for free.  These are the same people who have been milking the sci fi convention circut for decades.  They don't do that out of love.

Riffing aside (which was good), I found the episode itself rather interesting as well. Despite the acting quality (or perhaps even because of it), at least I found it more entertaining than pretty much any episode of Voyager or Enterprise I'd seen.

Yeah, as I said before, the writing wasn't bad at all.  It was a little cliche in that by the end of the episode both main guest stars have been neatly destroyed so everything is pretty much reset to zero (yeah, yeah, Sulu remembers, but Old Sulu and his daughter are both gone so everything's the same).  And they're already copying themselves in that I saw Walter Konieg's appearance ALSO involves his old character suddenly aging for some reason so they have an excuse for him to act with the regulars (same plot device used twice in just 6 episodes, hmmmm) and there was some really cheesy dialogue in spots as riffed by the boys.  But having said all that, it was pretty good.

Hilarious.  "Oh my God, they've moved up and to the right a little!" I thought the riff was fairly gentle, considering how rabid they've been with the original cast and movies.  As for the episode itself, the special effects were pretty great, and Takei and his daughter weren't bad (however creepy their relationship was) but the Star Trek cast were either barely passable or downright awful.  And what's with Kirk hitting on Sulu's daughter? Icky.

I'd love it if they'd did a few more of these...

EDIT: And they are.  Hurrah!

Oh, by the way, is anyone else convinced that she was Mary Jo?  Damn it sounded like her, with her voice pitch shifted up of course.
That was my exact thought. Which leads me to believe Mike Is Disembaudio since both were absent from this riff..

ShadowDog

Well, yeah, of course Mike is Disembaudio. :P

Guys? Torgo's said that Bill and Kevin didn't record this in San Diego and since I'm pretty sure that Dis lives in SD, which explains his unavailability. (And if I had to guess, I'd guess that "Susan" is probably Kevin or Bill's wife.)

Well, I'm 17 minutes into this movie right now, and Bill and Kevin are doing a fantastic job. But seriously, this film does hurt. I would consider myself a very casual Star Trek fan, and while I can admire the production value, the actors are so horrible I have to stop the movie, take a breath, and start again.

I mean good God, part of the appeal of the original Star Trek was the campiness, yet everyone is so serious! Kirk is soooo dull, Bones is not even the least bit crotchety, and what the heck is up with Scotty? Scotty was constantly overreacting on the original show, and his accent was so funny it was endearing. So why did they get a guy that didn't react to anything, and tried so hard to have a real Scottish accent? Ugh. And don't even get me started on Spock. I know he's supposed to be an alien and whatnot, but why does look like he had gotten the world's most awful plastic surgery? His cheekbones are practically in his eyes!  :P Leonard Nimoy was actually not a bad looking guy back in the day...this fan Spock is hard to look at, lol!

But anyway, back to the riffing. I just needed to come out here and vent for a minute before I get started again. This really is worse than Manos!

Favorite riff so far: "My hair is listening."

Coming soon to an iRiff near you.

They crammed a lot into the whole thing...I mean, the cheese was just on overload with the entire thing. It makes Cheeze Wiz look All-Natural compared to this.

If they wanted to be taken seriously, they should have just made up a new storyline so they wouldn't get slapped with the 'you didn't match up the characterization right' clause.

I mean...Scotty, the guy couldn't mimic a Scotty accent at all...The biggest thing about Scotty was his darn unique accent.

I think if you actually want to appreciate these fan productions, you really have to watch them in production order. The first one was so, so, bad, that once you get to the second one, you really begin to see some progress with the acting, and especially with the writing and direction. That's not to say that anyone would ever mistake any in the series as a professional production. But by the time the second one rolled around, those of us who had seen the first knew what to expect. So any improvement was appreciated. It was easier to look past the bad acting, and enjoy what the guys were doing.

The second one in the series, "In Harm's Way", was probably the best so far. It was much more epic in scope, and had several call-backs to the original series, including "The City On The Edge Of Forever", "The Doomsday Machine", "The Menagerie", and the movie series. It's no wonder they've kinda disowned the first episode, "Come What May", and now call it "The Pilot", making "In Harm's Way" episode #1. IHW also has has a fairly good guest start - Kurt Carley as Captain Pike. He's actually appeared in bit parts in a few movies you'll actually have heard of. And he played Lex Luthor in the VERY well produced "World's Finest" fan trailer.

I hope the Riffers actually get around to doing IHW after they tackle "To Serve All My Days". As much as I like the episode, it's still very riff-worthy.

That's interesting.  I just don't know if I could take anything worse than what we just saw.  LMFAO

well,  like I said in my review...I was impressed by how well this 'fan-made' episode was done...I mean really...they did a good job with the sets. But on the other hand, it was pretty bad. Acting by far the low point. Like Kevin sang at the start: "What...is...the...point?  ;)

Heh. Yeah. But at least the next time you're not gonna be shocked by it. And there's gonna be much, much less Scotty, which can only be good news to everyone but the Riffers.  ;)
